Opinions on the free version?

What kinda popup blocker software does it support?...I know most require IE

Is a %10 increase in speed the main reason to switch?

Do most people switch just because it isnt an MS product?

Not sure about the pop-up "software", but you have 4 settings. Allow pop-ups, refuse pop-ups, open up pop-ups in background and open requested pop-ups only. It works too, I tested it myself on a porn site that has pop-ups galore! Me personally I have nothing agants MS, in fact I've used IE since the original. But I feel that Opera 6.05 and now 7 offer way more security then IE. I also like how it lets me allow only cookies from selected servers, and how it handles cookies in general.

Sweet! Im liking this browser Two more questions:

Every time I come back to thse forums...I gotta logon again...How do I make it so all I gotta do is click on my bookmark and come here and be logged in?

Also, I use Outlook for email, not Outlook express, Does Opera work with Outlook? If so how do I set it up? It takes me to Opera mail when I click on the Mail icon.

In preferences, go to e-mail, and specify mail client.

I'm currently working on the problem of being logged in, and I think I've found the problem. In preferences, Privacy, make sure you have everything set properly. I have filters enabled for cookies, which means only the sites I allow will keep my login information. Other sites will get rejected when it trys to set a cookie on my comp.

I recently downloaded Opera 7 on my dad's computer because of problems with IE. I used to use it because the installation disk fit on a floppy disk and we would bring it to school. I still prefer IE. I have had a few problems going to certain sites with this browser. I never have any problems with IE. I wouldn't call it that much faster either. The different is hardly noticeable, if at all. I will try it on my other computer and maybe it will change my mind. The one thing I do really like is opening all the pages in the same window.

Same with me.. but as soon as I enter a forum (like Off Topic) it shows me as logged in, so it isn't that big of a deal.

it doesn't work for me. i've tried hitting refresh, going into different forums, neither seem to work. it does seem quite a bit faster than IE but if i can't get logged in, i can't use it
Ok, I'm pretty sure I've figured it out.

In preferences, go to privacy, make sure enable cookies is checked. Make sure throw away new cookies on exit is NOT checked.

I have it set like this: 1) Accept only cookies from selected servers, 2) Do not accept third party cookies. (you could also set it to allow all).

Where it states edit server filters, I have under, accept from server:
forums.anandtech.com
subcriber.anandtech.com
etc...
etc...

That should allow you to stay logged in. It will also block unwanted cookies, it allows you only to allow whoever you want.

It's not working right for me either, but I just set it up with the wand and it's not a big issue.

You may want to try accept from domain also. Because it's working perfect here on my end. I'm also able to log into my bank, which in will lock me out if I don't allow cookies.

IE6 lets me customize my browser settings so that I don't get popups (except when visiting sites I've trusted), and I'm able to allow only cookies from selected servers, too. I guess I'll download Opera to see if it offers superior methods of handling this stuff, but it doesn't sound as though there's really a tremendous difference. Perhaps I'll feel different about this after I try it. I tried an earlier version (4.x?) which was almost impossible to use. I'll hope that I'm impressed this time around.

Just downloaded it and using it right now. Love the browser and the integrated mail client. I'm trying to download new skins, but it seems like Opera's site is being hammered. Any where else to get Opera 7 skins? Any cool tips for us Opera newbies??

Thanks

Thanks. I set for Opera to play a sound when I get new messages. Hit apply. Fine. Then I send myself a message, get it, but the sound doesn't play. Any ideas?

it worked, but i'm not quite sure of the reasoning behind it. i had it set to accept all but third party cookies. anyhow, thanks for the help

Is there a way to put the Links or Bookmarks along the top, like in a toolbar instead of down the side??

Opera is great, I just wish that all the pages would load like they were intended. I hear this is more the fault of the page desginer and bad coding, but IE seems to be able to make it look nice. i.e. msn.com never comes out right and neither do some things in yahoo mail.

Also, has anyone noticed that Opera uses a lot of RAM sometimes? I had three sites (no special content or streaming media or anything) open and it was taking up 70 megs.

I get a wierd message sometimes when visiting espn sites: Connection closed by remote server.

These might be ad domains that are in my hosts file, but I never got that message with any other browser.

edit....anyone know the answer to my question above? favorites buttons in a toolbar?
