Opera 8.51 crashing

I have Opera Version-8.51 Build 7712 installed on my Windows XP SP2. I can browse and download software using Opera but as soon as I close the Opera window my sytem hangs.
Any one any suggestions?

Does this happen with previous versions? Does it happen in the Opera 9 beta, or is it only 8.51?

You consider reinstalling if it's only happening on 8.51. New directory too

it happened with 8.01 also.
will try out ur suggestion and reinstall the browser
what abt opera 9 beta? couldnt find anything n the opera site.

thats weird. i've been making the move to opera myself and have a similar problem with the old "encountered an error and needs to close" message.

it works fine for some time and then it just errors out.

i haven't done alot of looking into why but its with the same 8.51 build.

It's also possible that the crashes could be attributable to something else like a missing windows service pack, outdated java, old version of Flash, an external program trying to interfere with it.

I've been using Opera for months and never experienced anything except the occasional crash when viewing embedded WMV files. Fixed that by updating to WMP 10 though.

good point jaag, i'll have to take a closer look next time it crashes. after road testing firefox (again) and opera i thought i'd switch to opera from ie6.
