Opera Browser

Hey lads, who among us is using Opera? They apparently released a newer version this past week. Opera 7. I'm finding it very robust as they themselves claim, but their "worlds fastest browser" statement seems to be a tad off. IE6 is stll rendering pages/images a hair faster. Still with all it's features integrated and rather intuitive interface, it is head and shoulders above IE.

Just installed it today, but usability should be relatively easy even for novice users.

I do however wonder what it's built on. Obviously there are the Mozilla projects and their progeny, Firebird; where does Opera stand ? Is it even open source?

Opera's been around for 5-6 years at least. I was using Opera 2.x back in 1997-98. Opera 7 was released back in Januarary of this year.

It's based on Opera Softwares' proprietary code, it's not based on any other existing browser.

January, huh? I happened an article that was written sept. 26 2003 and they said it was released a week prior to the article..

still an awesome browers, regardless.

I love the email especially. Hopefully it's not plagued with periodical security patches like IE was.

The new release, the 7.2 one, was released a few weeks ago, the browser as it stands though, has been around for years.

I use Opera on my windows machine and love it. I switch between Mozilla and Opera on the linux machine.

opera is faster then IE IMO it seems that way especially when loading pages with alot of stuff

ive been useing opera sence V5 i beleive ive always like it. I also use FB but i like opera better. FB is to minimal

IE is in no way faster than opera.

I love opera and find it to be a good bit faster than IE. Plus I love having it autoload like 10 pages when it starts up.

I agree. I just made the switch from Firebird and I'm left wondering why I didn't do this sooner.

They seem identical in speed to me. (IE and Opera)
