Opera is now free!

Cool, just downloaded it. I've been a FF user for a year now and want to try something new.

I just downloaded Opera for OSX and it seems to have problems framing pages right. Anyone else have this problem?

I just downloaded it. First impressions are that I think I might like it better than Firefox.

Long time Opera user! Absolutly LOVE IT!

And I'm not a biased f*ck either. I gave Firefox a week to see if I would like it, and it failed to impress. I still use FF on the laptop (which I only use when I go to the library) but my main machine runs Opera, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love opera. I just love the logical ctrl-tabbing features and all the shortcuts. Especially the address bar shortcuts to google and ebay. So much better than going over all the way to a google search box. Also, I have had a few sites I've had to fall back to FF for, but those are rare, especially with the latest version. Luckily, I haven't gotten stuck at any IE required sites in a while.

I still don't understand what people are talking about when they say that IE renders faster than Firefox. This has not been my experience on multiple computers.

Meh....Opera's okay, but it's support for standards is far from perfect apparently. I use this menu system for one of my sites, and if you go to that link in firefox or IE, it works great and animated too! In Opera, it doesn't work at all. I found this to be somewhat disappointing.

Ok, so I really like opera, and I'll admit its fast, but I have so much on firefox that I use all the time, like Forecast Fox, and Foxytunes. Most importantly, I have AdBlock on firefox.

I have the mousegestures extension installed so my firefox does all that already.

Does Opera have anything that can do what those FF extensions do for me?

There is an adblock for Opera. Fairly simply to set up, I believe. Try googling it.

yeah, what's up with that? ie is horribly slow. it's not faster than mozilla at anything. startup is superslow, if you set mozilla to keep in memory.
but then, i've always had lots of memory, and a pretty fast cpu. dunno if it's diff otherwise

Mouse shortcuts are the best. You will find yourself missing them when you use Opera, and then try to use FF or IE.

Everything that Opera can do, FF can also do with extensions. FF has 10x more cusomization too since there are multiple extensions for the same function. FF is still superior in every way to Opera. Adblock with the Filterset.G Updater FTW.

I found it but it is a bitch to set up. It involves editing text files and what not and it still doesn't work.

i dont understand how people are sayin this or that is faster than IE when everything is near instant on IE...for me anyways...i click...and its there in less than a second

its very hard, for me anyways, to distinguish this nearly instant browser is faster than that nearly instant browser!!

sxr, what am I missing here? If you're referring to popup ads, the setting is under Tools>Preferences. The "General" tab has a check box to block popups. I think that some web sites work better if you choose the "Open popups in background option." Right clicking on a tab for an open page lets you close the page, close all pages, or close all but the active page. Thus twelve popunders can be can be closed at once.

It's a sign of how much I like Opera that I respond to a question like, "How do you do this?" Answering that sort of thing is what they have Opera help pages for.

Cause it is. I don't have any slow computers either. My slowest is a amd64 2800+ with a gig of ram. Even no my fastest one amd3800+ x2 @ 2570 i can notice a difference. Look at any reviews on firefox and you will usually see the same comment. Im not saying firefox is to slow. Its my main browser i use but i wish the rendering engine would get better in it.

No I mean ads. I found the pop-up blocker 30 seconds after installing it. Adblocking is different and is an add-on extension for Firefox. Iit looks like it is some sort of modification for Opera so it won't be in the help section. I'll probably work on getting my adblocker working when I have more time because I like the browser otherwise. It's hard to use a browser that shows ads once you get used to surfing without ads.
