I'm considering migrating to Opera, and I have some questions:

1 - Is it possible to show the full contents of web page title tags where the title bar used to be? I know I can mouseover the browser tab, but I prefer to see the page's title without having to do that.

2 - How to I manage bookmarks in Opera, or import a bookmarks.html file? The official help site seems to be out of date or referring to things without telling me where they are.

I'll probably have more questions, but the second one is an absolute necessity for me. I probably have somewhere between 100-200 bookmarks.

To answer some questions right away, I have been using Opera since they utilized their Presto engine and when they have first made available their Opera Link accounts for things like bookmarking.

I am now using their chrome based browser. And through this time, I haven't really used bookmarks, but I do not have that much saved in bookmarks anymore (most of the links I have saved are dated in access or information).

So with this in mind, I had to dive down to search for your #2 question with my current installation.

In short, there isn't an easy way to currently import .htm bookmark files or Internet Explorer arranged Favorites in the new chrome Opera, because in chrome Opera, the Bookmark synchronization leads back to the Opera Link account login page where all the bookmarks are stored from a past sync with the previous Presto Opera.

A solution, is to install the Presto Opera and import the bookmarks as per in the program.

ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1162/en/

If you want to use the new chrome based Opera, you need to establish an Opera Link account and synchronize those settings over.

That may not be a complete resolution. Because you mentioned you have over 100 bookmarks, the chrome Opera wants you to either have your bookmarks imported from your Opera Link to either the speed dial (arranged in a typical iOS fashion with web page preview icons and words underneath) or to a bookmark bar (folders in a drop down manner on a bar underneath the address bar). Through this, THEN you can use the Bookmark Importer under Tools in the Opera menu. And then, one would have to manually click the import button for each folder and loose bookmark not in a folder.

As of the first question, there is not an option to display the full title in the title bar of Opera.

Edit:

Case you haven't noticed, while I still put up with chrome Opera, it isn't exactly like the good Presto Opera of the past - in that Opera decided to follow the leader (Google) without completely making a good transition.

Edit2:

I like Opera Link, I believe that it is the first in browser synchronization that I noticed. It is a shame that it isn't being completely implemented as of now for me, or it can easily be set and accessed as in the past without going through a web page interface of EXTREME limitedness.

Which version do I have? I just went to opera.com and clicked on download. Here's what's in "About Opera" on my version:

Version information

Version: 23.0.1522.72 - Opera is up to date
Update stream: Stable
System: Windows 7 64-bit (WoW64)
Browser identification

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/36.0.1985.125 Safari/537.36 OPR/23.0.1522.72
Opera Link - I'm wondering what sequence of events that would have to occur before I would accept cloud integration to do things that only require cloud integration because they've made it that way

- edit - My impression is that versions of Opera since 11 are the Chrome-type you mentioned.

The last Presto Based opera is 12.17, it recieved a security update for the Heartbleed bug but other than that hasn't had an update since then.

For bookmarks Opera has put out a temporary extension while they work on integrating full blown bookmarks ala Presto Opera. That extension can be found here and you can import an HTML bookmarks file. The new Blink based opera bookmarks are currently in the developer builds (Disabled by default).

As for when that gets migrated to the stable it's anybodies guess but they're really slick if you take the time to mess with them. I left Opera when they first swapped to Blink and have since then come back to Opera.
