Opera is a high-quality web browser (not that new, it's on version 6.0 already) that operates on the no-extra-crap premise. It does what you expect a web browser to do, it does it quickly, and it's compliant with most standards, unlike Mozilla. The only downside to Opera is that the interface is somewhat annoying (not to use, but to look at) and doesn't have the customization qualites of IE. However, it doesn't have the glaring security holes that IE frequently does. Opera is a great browser, and I highly recommend it.
It's a very nice browser. It's superior to IE in customization and security, and to Netscape in everything. It's small, fast, configurable and good-looking.
Very good if you like to switch back and forth between multiple browser windows too, since you can have them all open up as tab's.
You can do the same with Mozilla with something called Tabzilla (I Think?)

And unlike Mozilla, it's compatible with DHTML and MS HTML.
I love Opera, as a matter of fact I am using right now. I personally love the interface. if you clean up the tool bar a little bit its great. Only thing is that you have to be able to ignore the adds. Ive gotten used to it. I dont even see them any more. You can pay a fee to get rid of the adds and get a few extra features with it, I plan to get around to that.... Someday....
My favorite thing about opera is the fact that you can use mouse gestures. you can surf the web with your mouse and dont have to move around to buttons on the tool bar. About anything that you can do with the tool bar there is a Mouse gesture for it. There very easy to use to Opera is quite liberal about what is a gesture. They all require you to press the right mouse button while preforming the gesture so that they cannot be mistaken during normal reading (If you follow the text with your curser like I do....)
Opera has gotta be the sweetest browser you can get... IE6 works well too and surprisingly i really love it... Opera is way cool.. very smooth, slick interface, and very fast... hence when it loads it says "fastest browser on earth" at least the 5x versions used to....
New to me anyway. Thanks for the information. My bad for asking a question in the wrong forum. Yes in many respects I am a "newbie." But that's one of many reasons why I ask questions in these forums.
Opera is a GREAT browser it's just that nobody uses it. I just got used to IE after using Netscape for years and years and don't want to get used to another browser who's future is as solid as Netscapes...Stick with the herd, use IE...
That's exactly the problem - no one wants to get USED to Opera. A software should not take any getting used to. If the idiots at Opera listened to me and adopted all the standard IE shortcuts and menus, their browser would be much more appealing. I don't want to get used to new Hotkeys and key combinations, either...
