Thats when I plan to buy one. Post your estimates here! Also can LCD's change resolution or are they stuck in 1 resolution?

The 20" Dell 2000FP runs natively at 1600x1200, but I haven't played UT on the TWO at work enough to comment on ghosting. Because of scaling issues and a fixed pixel size, I don't think LCDs supporting multiple resolutions are a reasonable goal. If anything, today's LCDs will "letterbox" anything that is lower than its native resolution (same size pixels, just using fewer of them).

So the only thing to wait for is for them to get rid of ghosting. Wonder how long that will take? The new batch of Graphics for this year should be able to run alot of games at 1600 x 1200 smoothly too

well if you are gaming on a LCD THAT large with a native resolution of 1600x1200 you're gonna need a hell of a comp to play ALL of your games at that resolution!

LCDs have several options for dealing with non-native resolutions. They can letterbox or they can scale the image. It's also possible for some video cards to do this for the LCD even if the LCD lacks support for letterboxing and/or scaling. If you get a 1600x1200, you can run at 800x600 and the image will be very good because 800x600 is evenly divisible into 1600x1200.

Wow, that's really awesome. I never thought of that! That really ups the ante in my mind about getting a big lcd. The only fear I had was about having to run everything at 1600x1200.

any resolution that is non-native, will be interpolated by the monitor. Interpolation has varying degrees of quality depending on the brand monitor. One thing is for sure is that the LCD will never look as good in a non-native resolution. Some interpolation is downright crappy.

As for the ms. Many 17"+ LCD's are reaching 20-25ms response times with very little ghosting. Some state 20ms but really aren't. Most brands/manufacturers are very unclear about this and info from the brand company and the actually LCD panel manufacturer can vary.

If you are mainly gaming in demanding FPS games, then CRT's are still the way to go. It all depends on when you are willing to take the trade-off for a snazzy space saving LCD. It all depends on your idea of quality. I know I see the difference between a 75hz, 85hz, and 95hz CRT refresh rates while others see nothing. I also like to work in 1024x768 for 19" CRT's. Forcing me to 1200x1024 or higher to see the native resolution is not my idea of a viable monitor. That to me is trading clarity eye strain for size eye strain.

Due to the LCD's cell technology, I also don't foresee any significant change in the native resolution problem as well. They may make 5ms response LCD's eventually but if I have to squint to see the type, I'm not buying it. Plasma's are no real hope either since they can't even go down to the detail (pixel size) of LCD's. They just display colors better.

Add the capability to display 32-bits worth of color and high reliability and I'm in too!
