Opinion on upgrading.

Like to get some opinion on which upgrading path would be better.

Currently I have single BFG 6800 Ultra OC on A8N-SLI. I'm currently thinking whether I should get a ATI Radeon 1900XT and replace the 6800, or get another 6800 Ultra and SLI it. Which option is better? Based on the cost it seem going with another 6800 is cheaper, but not sure which one will perform better.

i think the 1900xt for $240 ish or so, would probably still be a better performer .


its very close to a 7950gx2, and a 7950gx2 blows the doors off dual 6800ultras.

2 6800ultras is just about 7900gt speed now.

unfortunately the upgarade path you are on.....well SUCKS. sli is not designed to be a logical upgrade path unfortunatley.

Wait about 4 weeks. When G80 comes, prices on everything will fall. Sell the 6800U and buy whatever looks best.

X1900XT will KILL 6800U SLI. 6800U SLI performs about the same as a single 7800GTX.

I've got a 6800GT (OC to Ultra), and I'm definitely waiting for the G80.

get x1900xt unless you want your pc to turn into a loud toaster. the x1900xt is loud and hot, but compared to two 6800ultra's its cool and quiet

that's excellent! Just what I need, a $200 x1900xt. Yes... I might have to put off my build untill then. Now when are those RAM prices going to drop?

I upgraded from a 6800GT to a X1900XT 512 and the difference is huge.

Although, I suggest you either wait for the G80 cards, or go with a 7900 GTO now. With the EVGA, you could use it to step up to a G80 if you wanted.

Also, I personally don't see what all the hype is about the X1900XT (I know I was suckered in). Yes it's extremely fast, but I personally think ATI did a horrible job with this VC. Just stick with nVidia and you'll be very pleased.

Wait for G80 if you can, otherwise look at the X1900XTs or 7900GTOs, which are basically 7900GTXs with a bit of downclock.

first, welcome to ATF video!

and 'depends' on what you want . . . is your 6800u struggling in games or do you just want a 'bit' more?

and how cheap you wanna be . . .

If you want +70% performance increase - if that is enough for you for 'awhile' - and IF you can get your hands on a cheap/used 6800u, it might be worthwhile as a 'stopgap'.

if you are looking more long-term, look elsewhere

I looked up some benchies and it seems that 7900GT > 6800Ultra SLI. Do you have some benchies showing the opposite?

7800GTX > 6800U SLi

7900GT = 7800GTX

therefore

7900GT > 6800U Sli
