Looks like AMD responded.

I absolutely hate the word "trolling", but how can this be meant in any other way than to incite animosity in posters? Or do you have anything concrete on someone?

Am I missing some posts or a statement from AMD somewhere?

Nice. I simply forgot to add the link as d4a2n0k above had done. Real nice.

Can we get some reform now? If AMD is gonna clean up their act, I look forward to it. Last thing I want is to be targeted as some AMD shill just because I support their products.

Hopefully AMD sticks to their words and shows that they aren't using any underhanded tactics.

Of course, I have to point this out:

Apoppin@ABT said:
He brought up - after probably looking up ABT's file - that his PR team had noted that we were untrustworthy - that we had broken an NDA on the HD 6990 launch. i told him that i remembered but that i had *written permission* from AMD's PR company (Byte Communications) to post what i did at the at the time and that i was excused from any wrong doing. And so he asked for the original emails that documented this to be forwarded to him.

So much for shills getting him black listed. While I hope he resolves his issue, he owes ATF and the administrators an apology. Essentially he dragged this forums name through the mud just to find out it was his own fault, even if it was just a simple mistake.

So much for all the proof on shill identities, thought he was going to blow this place wide open lol. All this build up for nada. Fail.

There’s a key difference here – you aren’t going around and shilling products and/or services that your company provides. Staying anonymous is one thing, being a shill is something entirely different. Being a shill is actually illegal in some situations.

If there really are AMD shills among us then they need step forward and reveal themselves. The nVidia focus group did, now let’s see if you can.

As an aside, it’ll be interesting to see how Anandtech management reacts to this, if at all. The article seems to be implying that this forum is a sanctioned haven for AMD shills.

Hmm wouldnt it be the other way around? AT is well known to lean NV. Both in articles and the forums. That's my opinion at least from reading this site's articles for 10+ years.

As well, I don't think AMDs marketing department is good enough to have shills. They are a product / engineering company. Nvidia is a marketing firm.

I dont think this is the end of it........and the blacklisting wasnt his fault!..seriously, do you read extra lines between the sentences, Im struggling to understand how you jump to these conclusions?

/facepalm

I already corrected you in the timing. He took actions that were sanctioned, however it wasn't covered (error - ie my stating it was a simple mistake) yet it was his actions that caused his black listing - not ATF Harbored shills as he repeatedly claimed.

I get that you like him, and post there in support of him, but at least read what is written.

Basically the thought was that mods at ATF habored shills and gave them a free pass, and those shills caused him to lose favor with AMD PR and get blacklisted. Both of which aren't true.

If i'm wrong on this someone correct me.

I bet he feels that all his garbage for the last, what, 5 months? are vindicated. He got what he wanted from AMD through it (I guess? He had a sit down and got resolution).

But what about all the evil shills? Whoops. Now that he will be getting free hardware from AMD again, this will all go away, all the instigating and witch hunting will be forgotten.. Pathetic!

Free shit really does make people weird.

Lol, the paranoid lunatic quoted me in his thread, and responded amongst his followers there. So I'm an AMD fan, with no AMD hardware in my system. How does that work? The 680 I own is offended. Don't be mad that in the end, you've shown nothing. LITERALLY NOTHING! How does that make you feel? All that typing you did in your initial "exposé", for nothing. EL OH EL.

Someone said attack the message and not the mssenger, but hey, the guy is an accusatory loser. Everyone is out to get him, anyone who isn't with them is obviously paid for by AMD, Anandtech VC&G forum is paid for by AMD (their words), yadda yadda yadda. Some of you here are a part of that cult and love going back and forth, quoting guys here to go flame and laugh about it over there, all promoted and approved by the loser site owner.

Its sad, but I guess everyone needs a friend .

Reading the thread on ABT right now.
It seems there was more than a blacklisted, gruntled reviewer to this.

Like I said before...AMD could stop all this...if they wanted too...and it seems like they are looking into it right now.

Going to be interesting to see what happens...and I have a gut feeling something is about to change.

So after all that he's got nothing. Likely he'll shut up altogether if he gets back on the AMD gravy train. Part of what always made him most offensive is that unlike other reviewers, he seems to delight in free swag, it felt like that is why he became so irrational and started talking the bullshit he did. He was just irked he couldn't get free stuff anymore.

$100 says he never apologizes or retracts a word of it. Worthless reprobate.

If he accomplishes his goal with AMD, I'd much rather think that it would be you thanking him instead of him apologizing to you.
Go ahead and laugh your hardest at this statement. If you do it's because you don't really understand that all this wasn't about a pissed off editor that didn't get a toy to play with. Nobody can "make" you understand this, except you.

So begins the apologist approach and slow back-pedaling away from the offensive [redacted] that was posted by him and supported by the sparse few who post there.

Easily one of the most offensive posts I've seen from you, not that there has been a shortage of those in regards to this topic, here, and as I've read on ABT, over there. Take a look around, dude. You're in a small minority comprised wholly of the few posters who post there. Who happen to account for pretty much everyone who posts there.

Reading the filth on his boards and your participation, frankly, you owe this forum and certain members here an apology as well. Not a surprise to see you try to absolve him after seeing your posts there and what an avid supporter and encourager you were of this 'cause'. When the ship starts to sink... they all start looking for exits.

Save the apology, if it were ever to come, in this case though, could care less to have it.

Hi. Remember, your opinions are welcome here, but we have always tried to maintain avoidance
of certain inappropriate language or mild profanity.

Just a friendly mod reminder, for you and everyone.

Expected.

And OF COURSE I'm an encourager. YOU should have been an encourager, LOL. Many others here should have been encouragers of this process. You probably don't understand what the end game is, do you? What the goal is? Any idea? Do you NOT want AMD employees or affiliates forced into transparency in the forums? Just the affiliation or employment, mind you. Not asking for their social security numbers or anything.
It is logic in it's most basic form. AMD has a transparency clause in their social media policy. Encouraging their employees to post, but also require transparency. The ONLY AMD employee to EVER show transparency, was JFAMD. EVER.

Now, you tell me if it's at all possible that JFAMD is the only AMD employee/affiliate to ever post on Anandtech or any other tech forums.
I want to know who they are. A screen name, and a "I am an AMD employee or and affiliate under it or in a sig. Required by AMD or face sanction.

He refuses to apologize for insulting innocent people 'caught in the crossfire'.What a sorry state of affairs.ABT is a joke and the hypocrisy among some posters is incredible.

I'm all for transparency but not the nasty insults toward me on that site.I, for one demand an apology for being quoted on that site.

Yeah AMD Shills,if any, should be exposed just like how the nVIDIA fOCUS gROUP was exposed for shilling all those years ago.

Keys, the issue (as has been beaten to death already) is that just using probability to "prove" that this forum is big enough that it simply "has to" have AMD employees on is not enough. If you are going to argue this, then why not start a mission to expose all the Micron/Samsung/Intel/Apple/*insert your favorite target here* workers? The person who created this whole "conversation" did so elsewhere and with ulterior motives (i.e "I want the free swag back"). Now as far as the review material goes, I hope he uses it provide quality content, but IMHO I doubt that is going to happen. He ended up where he did as a consequence of his actions (I highly doubt he would be listed as unreliable over just the 6990 incident) and even if the gravy train fires back up, it won't last forever. Neither will the spike in traffic from crying wolf. I bet the influx was less this time than before, and will be less every other time this whole "cry foul at an established site" trick is pulled. So go ahead, ignore this, pat yourself on the back and say good job. Just know the community has already given you its collective "I told you so".

The sad part is that you probably really believe that [redacted] you posted there.

Lets all toss around a bunch of accusations and call out specific members at ATF as being shills and working for AMD because we a.) got cut off from free AMD hardware b.) enjoy denigrating posters who we can't denigrate at ATF without getting infractions c.) because we're just plain debased d.) I hate AMD rawwwwr.

That should be allowable because there just might be one there. I mean we don't really know, but we think they are, so we'll go ahead and name specific members at ATF anyhow. If we're just plain wrong in the end they should thank us regardless because hey, at least we tried. What a pile of fail. Wrong era for that mindset, think you're looking for the 50s or in these times you may want to investigate immigrating to a third world dictatorship with no human rights for those sort of methodologies to still be in play.

It may come as a surprise to some, but not everyone is that hard up for free hardware. I didn't spend 10 years of my time in post-secondary education and in excess of $100,000 on tuition fees to shill on a tech forum for a few scraps of hardware. The notion of having/wanting to do that to save myself a bit of change is as alien to me as taking out my frustrations by developing conspiracy theories against other people on the internet.

You may be able to relate and see some credibility in the idea that there are people who will shill for a few scraps of free hardware, but I sure don't. Even if I thought nvidia, AMD, Intel or whatever other random company was here shilling - I would not have the audacity to just pick the company I liked least and start calling specific posters/people and the ATF staff out with no proof, no right and no class.

As I said in the last thread on this; in the end it will all come out in the wash. What a sad degree of drama to have injected into what should be a mostly casual pass time of using an internet forum. I understand being passionate about the hardware as it is a hobby, but the degree and level this muck has taken things to is really something. At least it's absurd enough that you can enjoy a good laugh at it.

Redacted mild profanity.

We allowed this thread to exist, despite being non-technical nature, because we believe this is something that VC&G members deem is worthy-enough to talk about, and is not completely off-topic.

This is not a license to break all our existing tech-forum rules though, which includes not being hostile, denigrating, or similarly "personal" posting.

So as a reminder to everyone, your opinions are welcome here, but don't read it as a license to cross the normal guidelines of the VC&G forum.

Thanks.
