* Cable Internet (750Kbps is amazing).

* Microsoft Office Keyboard (double-fisted surfing/operation REALLY eases the strain on your mouse hand).

* Win XP (Do it, don't be afraid).

* iRiver SlimX350 MP3 player (iRiver is simply the best combo player out there).

* CIVIII "Play the World" (Been playing CIVIII for a year - it is outstanding).

* Ghost Recon (2001), and expansions (Still my favorite FPS).

* Bachetta "Giro" recumbent bicycle (You've gotta try one). Hardly rode my Klein at all last year.

* Forgot to mention the AOpen Optical Mouse. 4 buttons and 2 wheels (I use it at work, so I don't know how it is for gaming though).

I actually like it a bit more than my MS Intellimouse Explorer at home (better 4th button placement). Best thing? Only $13.

Would have to say the ACORP dual cpu board that I used to upgrade my file server\MP3 jukebox. I seldom ever use my mega-stereo to listen to music now.

Dual PIII-700's
512 RAM
80g Maxtor
SB Live 5.1

Other: GF 4TI4200 128 GS for my XP1700
Replaced a dud Abit KX7 board with a refurb'd ASUS A7V - Went backwards in features but man what a great board this has turned out to be.

1) Finally went DDR. KT133A to KT333.

b. 1GB PC133 CAS3 to 512MB PC2100 CAS2.

2) GF2 Pro to GF4 Ti 4200. Huge improvements.

3) Finally set up a RAID 0 "array". I like it a lot.

My 21" monitor, dell p1110, I also got another 80 gig drive, not really a huge deal though. Xbox is a huge one for games though, I love that thing, and love it even more because it was free.

6) Audigy 2 - It's last because of issues I had (read my thread), but I will grudgingly admit that when it's running, it does sound better than my Turtle Beach Montego II. Though that's not saying much...

5) 435W Enermax Whisper Series with Active PFC and manually adjustable fan speed. Seriously kicks a$$. Would be higher, but like someone said before, it's hard to tell the difference. All I know was that it was necessary to run my 5th hard drive (next on the list).

4) WD 800JB. Good lord this hard drive rulez. I now have 300GB of space; 2 Maxtors and 3 WD's. I'll continue to add WD's in the future, but not until Serial ATA.

3) AXP 1900+ from a PII 450. Yeah, it's a big jump, but I barely noticed it. I don't play enough FPS' to have really strained my old PII. However, I did notice a big difference in RTCW. The thing is, I didn't play it much after upgrading so it didn't factor in much. Now if I had still had my PII system now and had been trying to play Age of Mythology... well, I can imagine I'd realize how wonderful the change truly was.

2) Case with 5 cooling fans. The previous 4 hard drives were just kind of laying in the case with the side off. Getting a cheap case (I will wait to buy a Lian-Li until I get a computer worthy of one...) with 5 fan slots wasn't bad. It also had room for all 5 hard drive and had a removable (not slide-out, but removable) motherboard tray as well. I'll never go back to not having one of those!

1) 3mbps cable modem service. When I started college in the dorms, I was sharing a T1 line at 1.5mbps. When I moved out, I swore I wouldn't bother with anything slower. I finally broke down and paid the money ($50/month for the first three months; cancelled after that) for a 1.5mbps DSL line that I only kept through the promotional period. When I said broke down, you didn't think I'd actually go back to dial-up, did you? Good lord that's insane! Let me tell you, if you don't think that it would make much of a difference moving from 1.5mbps to 3mbps (actually tests consitently at 3.3mbps), then you're sadly mistaken. I consistently fill my entire bandwidth. It's the price I pay....

I probably won't be upgrading again until Hammer. I wouldn't have upgraded my proc at all when I did had it not been for a sweet deal on the mobo/CPU combo ($100 total back in October). I plan on getting 5 hard drives (in a RAID 5 array) of about 120GB apiece, depending on prices at the time, an NV 30 (or 31, also depending on pricing and availability), possibly a speaker upgrade (my current Altec Lansings sure as hell don't sound 4 years old), and very possibly a monitor upgrade, as my power button on my Dell P990 19" Trinitron is going out. Which one you ask? Well, if FFD comes out EVER from NEC or Mitsubishi, I'll be looking at models with that, but for now, the front-runner would be this Hitachi CML174B, with a rise and fall response time of 12ms and 4ms, respectively. Hopefully, by then there will be an 18.1" version. I can dream, can't I?

My 2002/2003 upgrades so far:

-Enlight 7237 Case > Generic very nice case with window and fan (sue me, I don't want to pay $200 for a case )

-40GB Maxtor 7200 RPM +30 GB 7200 RPM IBM > 60GB Maxtor 7200 RPM > 80GB Maxtor 7200 RPM DiamondMax 9
I went from two decent sized drives to one bigger one... realized that I could use more storage space (and wanted the nice 80GB platters of the DM9) I jumped at the chance to swap for the 80GB DM9'er (plus cash, of course!).

-GeForce 3 Ti200 > Radeon 8500 128MB > GeForce 2 GTS > GeForce 3 Ti200 > GeForce 4 Ti4200 128MB (still in the mail :| )
Ok so I upgraded to a Radeon 8500 since I got a great deal on the card, then sold it in anticipation of getting a Ti4200. Long story short the Ti4200 is STILL on it's way to me in the mail (since mid-december) and I've had 2 temporary cards in here until the new one arrives.

-2 X Crucial PC2100 256MB > 2 X Samsung on Samsung PC2700 256MB (tangible difference to me: none, but hey the Sammy does run at higher FSB's, which I currently can't run with my old XP1800+)

-P4 2.2 GHz > Athlon XP 1800+ (downgrade) > Athlon XP 1700+ Tbred (also still in the mail :|)
So, I got a Epox 8K5A2+ (amazing mobo, btw) to replace my P4B266 (I just wanted a change). Currently, my system is actually slower than it was before, but I gotta support AMD and the 1700+ should o/c great once it arrives (expecting ~1.9+ GHz)

TEAC 24X CDRW > ???
Pulled my TEAC and sold it, and am waiting a 32X drive in the mail... I may cave and just give the 32X to my parents, and get a 48X for myself...

Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu > Volcano 9

I got an Enermax 330W PSU to ensure stability when I make my next upgrade:

Western Digital 1200JB (As soon as I get my new debit card in the mail).

The Philips Acoustic Edge was a wonderful improvement over my SB Live! Value which served me well for a few years.

My Radeon 8500 was a long time coming also. My GeForce2 was starting to struggle a little bit. Plus, I can't live without anisotropic filtering anymore.

Also, this isn't really an upgrade, but after I moved I was able to finally set my speakers up for proper positional audio. Before I could only get it with headphones. Man, it is great to really crank up the sound with QMSS on.

1) Antec SX835 Case - $60 shipped. Wow, had NO idea what a difference a great case makes, I'm REALLY glad that I jumped on the deal. Before that, I thought $30 cases were good enough, but was I wrong!
2) ATi Radeon 9700 TX - $130 shipped from Dell. A great upgrade, running at 330MHz/285MHz right now, a very cheap upgrade giving me a nice boost over GF3 Ti200.
3) 19'' Sony G400 Trinitron monitor - $200 even from Sam's Club. Another great upgrade over my old 17'' Samsung 753DF, though now I'm eyeing 18'' LCDs
4) Western Digital 120GB JB HD

It is a toss-up between More RAM For Win XP or the cable modem/Linksys Router. Win XP loves more RAM, but the increase in internet speed is great too.

My brand spankin' new 17" Sony Personal Entertainment display. This thing's brighter than the sun and cool as all heck with native 1280x768 WXGA resolution. Plus I have my PS2 hooked up to it so I can play in my room =D.

And... the generic fan I epoxied to my heatsink to make it silent.

My new 80 gig 7200 RPM Western Digital Hard Drive for $100 at samsclub.com a couple months ago. Mmmmm ... roomy.

I tried to buy one in the store itself buy they said some guy bought every one of them right after they opened. Not a bad idea, that price is awesome. Good thing they had 'em in stock on their site.
