I have a stick that does 216@ 2.5-3-3-8, With loose timings I was able to go up to 245fsb long enough to run some sandra benchies and a loop of 3DMark.

I've been using the VS memory for a few months now. I can actually do 215MHz @ 1:1 @ 2.7Vdimm with 3-3-3-11. Not bad. I typically run at 200MHz FSB though. The neat thing about my memory is this: the sticks aren't even close to being matched. One is old VS that is recognized as Xerox. The other is newer VS that is recognized as such. I wonder how much more FSB I'd be able to get if I sold my current set and bought a brand new matched set of VS? Any opinions?

Oh and welcome to Freya. Sorry you are having trouble creating a new topic and no hard feelings about the OT posts. I'm happy you chose my thread actually.

Wow, this thread gives a newbie OC'er hope! I'm building my first rig...

Winchester 90nm 3200+ 939 (2.0 Ghz stock)
Asus AV8
Corsair Value 2x512MB PC3200

What's a reasonable OC goal for me to achieve (solid stability please, I'm not ready to take it to the limit)?

I'm using the same setup except im using a 3500+ instead. All I'm looking for is 220 fsb, so I can use asus's built in 10% overclocking option. 11* 220 is more than enough for me. Im guessing with your setup, you can probably do 10* 220 while keeping a 1:1 ratio.

Hmmm, aren't the 90nm supposed to easily do better than 2.2? With my 3200+, shouldn't I be able to hit 2.4 also some kind of way? The 3000+ are said to reach 2.6..

That would require your ram to overclock as well though. You cant change the multipliers on a64's

You can just run the memory on a divider. There is very little performance loss from running async with the A64.

While its true that you can't raise the multiplier, you can still lower it.

Resonable? Is about 240 mhz bus with a 10X multi on air equaling out at 2400mhz. Which corsiar value can't handle. But crucial 8T can. Crucial is the best mid/value range ram. Easy OC to 240 Mhz. Most compatable ram according to toms hardware only ram to have 100% compatability. And is back by a company you know will be around forever.

If you've already ordered you will have to run async, no biggie.. my tests say about 3% slower this is 256 mhz vs. 221 both 3-3-3 using TCCD

PS expensive ram Wes is always pimping in reviews is never worth it. Only emotion/ego allows someone to spend 2x the money for 3-5% performance. Especially on A64 whos latency is so low anyway.

I'm looking to purchase the following:

Asus A8V Deluxe
Athlon 64 +3000
and 1gb PC3200 (512x2) but I'm not sure what to get.

I use my computer for gaming and video editing. My current video card is a 9500Pro and I won't be upgrading that bottleneck anytime real soon so this memory issue probably won't make too much of a difference.

Anyway, the options I'm looking at are the Corsair Value Select, or for $50 more ZZF has this CorsairXMS

Or if I do a CPU/MoBO/RAM combo at MWave for $20 over the ValueSelect I can get this Crucial RAM

I'm looking to get the best value and reliability. I am also going to try and OC the CPU to 2.4GHz (possibly with the RAM async if need be).

Any tips/opinions or something I'm overlooking? Cheers

Mine is running single channel 2.5-3-3-7 at 205FSB. I've taken it up to 220FSB with loose timings. It's some of the better clocking "value" memory around. But if you want good timings on a budget, look at Patriot/PDP 2-3-2-5 memory.

The thing with the PDP Patriot is then I'd be ordering from Newegg, which normally wouldn't be a problem but I'm up in Alaska so shipping will add about $25 to it's cost, so then it's up at the CorsairXMS price at ZipZoomFly which ships Fedex 2day free to AK.

From what I've been reading, it looks like the CorsairXMS 3200C2 doesn't really overclock too well so maybe I'll just go with the value select.
