I have 2 x 512MB Corsair Value Select PC3200 CAS2.5 coming, probably be here tomorrow. What timings should I expect to run at with it? I'm looking for 2.5-3-3-11. Is that realistic? Can I get better timings at "normal" voltages (2.6-2.8V range)?

Advise please. Thanks.

No offense my friend, but don't you think you should've researched your questions BEFORE you bought the stuff? Don't take this the wrong way...I read your post and just had to reply w/this answer. That's why I'm gun-shy about buying most stuff...gotta research first.

I hope you run 2-2-2-2-1T w/it though.

Yes, since it's rated @ 2.5 cas, there's no reason for it not to do 2-3-3-11. My guess 230fsb @ 2.8V 3-4-4-11.

Well, among standard computer users it gets high ratings. I was looking for the overclockers opinions here. I don't plan to go above 200MHz FSB on my NF7-S R2, and that's why I downgraded from my Corsair XMS PC3500 C2PT. I just want to know what timings I should be able to run with at that FSB.

I guess I didn't phrase my question properly.

And actually I didn't buy this memory, I traded my Corsair for it and $150 cash. I used the $150 to buy a Radeon 9800 Pro.

:Q I bow to your L33t Ferregi Skillz.

I would say the timings you expect are well within reach as long as you don't go over 200MHz. Best of luck.

hehehe

Well, the Value Select is installed and it is running at 2.5-3-3-11. I'm gonna try to ramp it up later and run some Memtest86 on it.

I'm planning on buying that too. How is the ValueSelect series? Why exactly is it a 'value' series anyway?
What makes the XMS series better than it?

It's value because it's cheap. It has no heatspreaders as well I believe. And it's fairly slower.

I hate to say this in an overclocking forum but my bandwidth scores according to AIDA32 are exactly the same with the Corsair Value Select 3200 @ 2.5-3-3-11 as I was getting with my XMS 3500 @ 2-2-2-11. I don't run over 400MHz FSB so I didn't need the XMS.

I may regret my decision later when I go with an A64 system but we shall see.

ps - it has been shown many times that heat spreaders are practically worthless. I'm not suffering due to not having them on my current RAM sticks.

I have some value select pc2700 running 11-3-3-2.5 @ 183mhz.....
I couldn't post @ 190 but I doubt it was the ram. Running an 1800+ with a 12.5 divider.

Its a AMD 64 3000 so...

220 x 10 = 2.2 ghz

Not bad for cheap RAM.

If i had my way, i would get faster ram that would reach atleast 240 mhz which at a 1:1 ratio would give me 2.4ghz (most AMD 64's can reach 2.4 easy) But that RAM is probably atleast twice as expensive.

isn't it possible to set your memory clock to 166 and then up your fsb to achieve higher processor speeds while keeping your memory at a functional speed?

I'm running my 3000+ at a 267 fsb with a 3:4 ratio or 200mhz with the same memory. So yes it is possible to drop the memory down to raise the FSB

Yes but you would be running your FSB and memory Async.. which seriously hurts performance. WIth the AXP it is best to stay insync, the added latencies just kill it.

Top right hand corner of the monitor. It says new topic, click on it and you are there. No Firefox is prefectly compatible with it. However does anyone else find it hard to believe that a noob who doesn't even know where the new topic button is is using an advanced web browser?

Anyway, Welcome to the Forums!

Honestly, Value Select Corsair is my personal favorite ram selection. 90% of the time if we ever have a memory compatibility issue, a change to VS does the trick.
