Opinions on a Hans G monitor

I see this new arrival at Newegg: linky. I wanted to know if this is a good monitor. Also, is there a better price / performance monitor? I mean, I do FPS mostly, so good response times are a must, but convincing my parents of a good LCD is hard to do. Putting down $350 for a 19" monitor is simply unacceptable to them. Will that monitor do well or is there something else I should try to find?

Yes it does look good. As for res. I dont believe I've seen even one game that supports that res... Maybe cause I've never had a widescreen before??? Either way, can someone please answer?!

I've checked for reviews and there doesn't seem to be anything on it, until I can see anything I'm going to regard it as a so-so monitor with TT fan style inflated specs

this is the same 19" WS panel that everyone else sells.

this monitor (albeit with a different colored bezel) is the subject of a 100+ post thread in HD.

that same panel can be had at costco.com for $165 after rebate and coupon.

No, no, and no.

1. This is not the same panel that everyone else sells. Hannnstar (parent company of Hanns-G) makes their own panels whereas many of the other value 19" widescreens tend to be Chi Mei based.

2. The thead in hot deals is not even close to the same monitor, different panel. It's not even widescreen.........

3. The one you linked to from costco is not the same. Never heard of the company but just comparing ther specs it's not the same as the Hanns-G and the specs make it appear to be another Chi Mei based LCD.

Anyways, the hannstar 19" widescreen panels are relatively new IIRC so I don't think you'll find too many reviews on that particular panel. I got my parents one of the monitors from the thread in hot deals (19" but not widescreen) and it's a pretty basic LCD. Decent quality, on par with pretty much every other LCD in that price range.

I think if gaming is your primary concern maybe you should just go for one of the 2ms LCD's from Ben-Q, Viewsonic, etc. You lose the widescreen though.

I have a ViewSonic 1912WB which is also a 1440 x 900 screen. Most newer games support the resolution, but older ones don't. Also, my viewsonic absolutely refuses to scale properly when using the video card driver option (I've tried both ATI and NVidia video cards). In contrast, I have 3 BenQ monitors (both widescreen and non-WS) that all scale perfectly well in I use "proportinal scaling" on my video cards. If this LCD can do propertional scaling properly, then I think its a great deal.

0.283mm x 0.238mm

that doesn';t seem right, but the specs show it twice!

If i understand that pixel pitch right, its saying its pixels are widescreen, not just the screen!

BenQ 2ms 19" monitor for $229 - $15 coupon = $214. close in price and BenQ might be better.

It's a typo. The pixel pitch on the hann-g is .283x.283. You can see the specs of the hannstar panel here.
