I'd like to hear from those that are using this MB. What do you think of it? Likes and dislikes.... How is the documentation that came with it? Would you buy one again?

Also, what type of memory are you using?

hmm...I wish I could find it! I found only a few places that say they carry it, but are out of stock. I'm starting to think the rumor that it was discontinued is true.

I love everything on the board except the (*#@&$(@&#*4 CNR slot..
Why put a CNR slot in a mobo geared towards power users?

Sheesh..

see my review, it's a nice, well-made board, looks cool with the blue PCB, a bit expensive, high in overclocking, high in FSB, I'm still searching for an "issue" hehehehe ... the big Siftech MC does not fit

Be aware that if you're planning to use all 3 DDR slots, you'll have to buy more expensive registered PC2100 memory or else you'll have issues with memory timings. Other than that, it's a great board if you can find one!

Great board! You have to buy registered memory to use all three slots in a stable manner. In stock here shortly(update- new shipment due 6/15)- Link. I wish these rumors would stop about boards being discontinued, realize the majority of Asus and Gigabyte's production are for the OEM market, retail supplies will vary. Also in stock here as of this morning in limited quantities- Link and here but in very limited quantities also- Link

Hi Bingo: are there rumros they stop the 7DXR? That would be too funny, the board is just 6 weeks in the market. It was the same with the A7M266. I got this board end of December 2000, and mid of Janaury 2001 one webdside started already spreading rumors the board would be discontinued, until now the board is in retail. Regarding Gigabyte, they are indeed producing mainly for OEMs, and a board like the 7DXR is porbably produced in very small quantities only.

Bingo13....Don't put any stock into whatever pc progress says...There is also a wild rumor that the 7dxr has been recalled, The rumor business is suck, but it is endemic to the internet. As we all knew at the time, the A7M266 rumor was false as well, but I was reprimanded by the administrators of this very site for saying so...

Bevo,

I actually received my first board from them (note-premiersystems), only reason I went that route was they had it in stock at the time of order. First and only dealing with them (very nice). I ordered one from the other guys this weekend. I have not dealt with PCProgress yet except on the phone. I have stated in several posts that there was not any issue with the supply of A7M266 boards. I can get them through Tech Data or Ingram just about anytime, expensive yes, but available. These rumors drive me crazy at times as you can show absolute proof to the contrary and yet the poster is to be believed without any documentation. The Gigabyte is in short supply because it is a limited volume board and there is a large demand for it at this time. Abit will go through the same issues at the launch of the KG7. AMD is quite surprised at this time about the volume of 761 chips required as they should have been ramping down with VIA being in full production on the KT266. Anyone want to guess why SIS/Nvidia is suddenly looking like the brides to be here?

I have the board now just waiting 2 more days for the cpu. The documention is excellent, far better than I have had before from the other major players such as ASUS, Abit and MSI. The retail package just oozes quailty so I can wait to get the board running and open up the throttle

yep, I also remember: it was one specific site, which started spreading this rumor about the A7M266 in early 2001, and had later to apologize. Could you tell me, which one, I forgot. If you don't wan to to tell it here, pleaes send me e-mail

The rumor about the 7DXR has been clarified. After it was posted, I called 3 different Gigabyte subs, and they all denied it. The person who posted this (it was on the Giga forum of www.amdmb.com) later made it clear that he received a wrong information from his vendor about this.

chainbolt...The rumor was started by a salesman at TC Computers. I've watched that company in action for a long time. Wouldn't buy anything from them then, and won't buy anything from them now.

The 8K7A has an onboard POST reader, which costs about $30 as a PCI card, and has 6 PCI slots. It includes a rear bracket to take advantage of the extra USB ports, too. Downsides: 2-phase power supply (but it's heatsinked, so high-end T-birds still run), it supplies too much voltage to the CPU (I get 1.81v where I should have 1.75v), and it doesn't have AGP voltage control (although it's documented to have it). CPU's tend to run hotter in 8K7A's than any other SocketA boards. The 8K7A+ board has a (crappy) HPT-370 RAID controller. The non-RAID version is a great value at $130.

The 7DXR has 3 DDR DIMM slots, AGP Pro, a better-colored PCB, and better documentation. It may/may not be more stable. It is documented to be Palomino-compatible. The RAID controller is the marginally better Promise unit. It also has better CPU temperature monitoring (better thermistor that makes contact with the downside of the CPU). Downsides: $60-$70 more expensive, 5 PCI slots, no POST reader (more useful, IMHO, than IDE RAID), short supply.

Am I happy with my 8K7A? Since I was able to easily buy it, it was inexpensive, and my system hasn't had an unexplained bluescreen in the past two weeks I've been using it (Disclaimer: ECC memory and Windows 2000), I'm very happy with it.

LOVE this board! only thing I dont like is that it comes with a neutered RAID BIOS. Thats OK though because you can get a hack here
