Miatas are fun but to me they will always be a girl's car. I've driven one many times and they are fun to drive, but not as fun as the convertible RX-7 I had.

Euro NCAP tests gave it 4*'s out of 5. An E36 BMW gets 2.5. The previous shape C Class gets 2 stars.

My wife took out a tree with the drivers door in her MX-5 (Miata) and she had not one scratch. not even the door glass shattered. The Side beam took the load and the tree ended up wrapped around the car.

a good friend of mine owns a miata. and i called him gay.. until he started working on it...
somewhere around 350hp now i believe... and at just 2200 pounds.. you can call him gay all you want.. he's just driven so far down the road by then he can't hear you... not that he could anyway between his engine and sound system......

but unless you'll have that performance, perhaps another choice

Is it better to wait till the winter to buy a used one or it doesn't matter in CA? The pickings are kinda slim right now, 99 with 50K miles is what I am looking for and they are around $10K+, I am hoping for under 9K.

OK, I am keeping the Maxima. It's 140K miles, not worth much, but drives great. I won't get what it's worth to me if I sell it. Now that I moved into an apt with a garage, I can keep one car on the street and one indoors. It'll come in handy if going to Tahoe or hauling stuff.
I may pick up my friend's 97 Miata for trade-in value when he leaves the country next month as my 2nd car.
It'll be around $4500 with 100K miles. Nice thing about that would be not having to get comprehensive insurance, since the car isn't worth a lot.
