Well, one of my friends (among other people I know that autoX) owns one as his daily beater. Since it's summer right now that's fine. He planned on using his AWD Talon as the winter car and "race" car.

Yes, the Miata has and always will have the "flamboyant" image attached to it... heck, everyone and their sister knows that. However, it doesn't change the fact that it makes a fun commuter car for sure. As long as there isn't too much rain, it's usually fine... no troubles with major leakage from the top according to my friends but it's garaged/covered during the winter/rainstorms. I wouldn't get one unless I was ready for that possibility.

Oh, and again, the nice thing about the fact there is some truth to the image of a "chick" car... chicks will like your car. I drive a supposed chick car and girls really do like it... until the turbo kicks in and they wet their pants.

And someone stated that MR2s don't have as much aftermarket support is smoking crack. The 1st and 2nd gen MR2s (not that MR-S they call MR2 now) have a bunch of parts for them. Oh, and the S2000 is in a competely different class of roadster... it competes against the Z4 and Boxster.

Heck, if you want you might be able to sneak a lower priced Boxster into your life... if you can pay for the maintenance that is.

EDIT: GST = Eclipse GS-T

Mine works just fine as my only car. By the way it was $16,900 new. You could find a left over 03 for close to $15k if you can find any.

insurance is cheap cause it's only a 4cyl.

The car isn't gay, it's not like it has a thing for other male cars' tailpipes or O rings, it's just that most manly manly men don't favor the small jellybean shape and the 4 cylinder fury.

OFFICAL AND CONFIRMED

most of the people here either a) can't drive or b) will never get sex that they don't pay for, so i'd go ahead and discount anyone saying you'll look gay in a miata. the car is great to drive, especially up in the mountains on windy roads. i ended up not getting one because the things are just small and it was going to be my only car. however, if you want a fun sporty ride, a miata is a great fit. you'll be hard pressed to beat what you get for what you'll pay.

I would've suggested a Nissan 240sx as an alternative, but I see you already mentioned that in a previous post. A 240sx will be my next car though (probably middle of next year, if everything goes to plan), I'm not sure which model year though. I'd prefer a '91-'94 fastback, but I know I'd have to do a lot of work on it, probably a new suspension and then eventually a new engine (SR20DET). I'd be happy with a '95-'98 though, even though I don't like it's styling as much as the '91-'94 (S13) or the '99-'02 (S15).

I personally don't like miatas. I haven't driven or been in one, so I have no real reason except for that I don't like the styling.

Mazdaspeed Miata? Doesn't that retail for like 26k? For that price I would take an Evo RS. More practical, and no questions of manliness.

oh damn. didn't realize the msrp was so high. that is a bit overpriced

They're selling for about $21k too.

call up your insurer and find out

i'm listed on 3 cars and i don't think it's any more than just 1. the problem is that a miata is a sports cars. so your insurance will likely go up, but i guess you'd get the maxima's insurance for 'free'

Nope, Miata insurance is cheaper then a civic.

I'm 6'4" and that car is not for me... My parents have a red one....it's a fun ride and I was surprised at the power the 1.8L engine gives. Overall, it's a great ride from good design. It gets a bad reputation for being a chick car, but don't mind that....people will STILL be jealous because it's one of the best looking and performing convertibles on the road without going BMW or Mercedes...

Miatas are death traps. They're small, weak and look funny. You can get a MUCH better car for the money.

My uncle has one, but he had to get a truck for whenever it snows. He kind of lives in the mountains with some winding roads, but he says it's pretty bad whenever it snows over a couple inches.

This is no place to ask a question like this. Try to find a more automotive oriented forum to get real opinions from people that have actually owned/driven Miatas. Here you're just going to get the usual typical uninformed juvenile ATOT bullshit.

Miatas are like fat chicks and scooters, they might be fun, but you wouldn't want your friends to see you with neither.

And you can quote me on that.

I drove a ?96 Miata as my only car for about three years. It was a great car: the most fun car I have ever owned. Is it very practical? Not really. I used to put my bags up front when I went grocery shopping. The seats are low, too, causing your thighs to ache on long drives. But it does sip gas, sounds and handles great. The car was perfect in the rain but was an oversteering fool in the snow. In the end, who could argue with a two place convertible with perfect weight distribution and kick butt handling?
