I recently had a weird experience with my system, it's rather drawn out so I'll try to summarize.
I've been running a Tbird 1.2 (100mhz version) @ 1.35 (10x135) on a MSI KT266 Pro2 since the board was new on the market (about a year I guess???). The combo has been rock solid & I've been able to run "toast" (or anything else) for as long as I bothered to let it go. The max temp was the low 40's (42-43) w/ an alpha 8045. Last week I updated the original BIOS so I could get the low speed fan detect. Over the weekend I downloaded the Wolfenstein demo & tried to play, it froze immediately. I thought, okay that's fine, I'll just set it back to normal speed. I did that and I played for about 2 hours until I started to get spontaneous drop outs to the desk top - yikes! I immediately thought temp was an issue, but the CPU was only @ 41 (compu-nurse probe right at the die) - HUH? It's run hotter than that for hours under toast. I started playing with BIOS settings & nothing helped, in fact it got worse. It got to the point where with the BIOS default settings loaded I couldn't even get into windows (2K) w/o getting an error or a spontaneous re-boot. This morning I decided to set it back to it's OC'd settings (figured WTF could I loose) & it's running stable again - HUH? I ran a Q3 demo loop for an hour w/o a hitch.
At this point I'm thinking that the CPU is "burned in" @ 1.35 & doesn't like to function at anything else, is this possible?
(of course since Wolf locks up w/ an OC I still haven't figured out how I'm going to play it - lol)
Thanks
