opionions on board for prescott

I recently got one of those 2.8 prescott's from Newegg. I was looking around at different motherboards. I was almost decided on the p4p800 , although this board caught my eye. Soyo . I know there are some flaky Soyo boards out there, but I had a Soyo Dragon Lite for my 1.6 Northwood, and it ran great. I'm thinking that both boards mentioned in this thread will run the prescott, correct me if I am dead wrong

System components..

Board ? (considering the soyo)
2.8 prescott w intel copper hs/fan
512mb PC3200 XMS
Antec 400 smart power
SX1030B case with 4 fans
WD 40, Maxtor 120 IDE drives
GF4 Ti4600
combo dvd/cdrw

Any help/comments would be appreciated.

I know the prescotts are supposed to run a tad hotter, but I probably won't be o/c'ing and my current setup is an XP2000, same case and fan/hd/vid setup and I have had 0 problems with it at all.
here is the heatsink I picked out, any opinions on this?

If you want a great mb at an outstanding value take a look at the Asus p4s800d-e deluxe based on the 655tx chipset

Wouldn't an 875 board work better for prescotts? I don't think the 865 boards were designed in mind for the power consumption of the prescotts. I would look to those boards like an abit IC7 Max 3 or an ASUS P4C800 series.

the p4c's are like almost $200 though. I was hoping to max around $125

Asus p4s800d-e deluxe goes for $105

According to the asus site, as well as at least 1 review site,(could be AT), the p4p800 is spposed to be compatible with the prescott. If you want to know for sure, send me the chip, and I'll try it out for you. Yes, I am serious.

Edit; Reason I said I'd test it for you, is that I have 2 rigs going here 1 has an asus p4c800-e, the other is a p4p800.

I think I eliminated the Soyo from the running. Looking now at the p4p800 deluxe and one board from Intel and an Abit IC7 intel

I have no experience with Abit boards, but most poeple seem to think they are fine.
Let me know what you guys think please.

Check out the new Abit AI7. Just put mine in yesterday. Very nice board. Check out this thread over at the Abit forums. A guy cranked his Prescott 3 Gig to 3.9Gig.

so it may be a good choice for it. Newegg has the board for $109.

I wouldn't recommend tha AI7 for Prescott - especially if you want to overclock. The power requirements should limit your searches to boards with the most stable voltage regulators and quality components. I would suggest the IC7-G or Max 3 or the Asus and Gigabyte boards that can handle the power requirements. I read a review that had the AI7 as stable but unable to overvolt more than 10-12Mhz. None of the current chipset were really designed for the Prescott power requirements so expect to see a lot of mobo failures related to cooked mosfets over the next couple of months. At least look at boards that have at least a four phase voltage regulator if you are going to do any overclocking with a prescott.
