Hi ya all, I had a Opty 144 CAB2E 0548FPMW that barely could do 2.6Ghz with 1.6vcore so I sold it on ebay (for a profit) and luckily got myself a Opty CAB2E 0546FPMW. The differance is amazing! The 0546 can do 2.8Ghz on stock vcore and 2.9Ghz SuperPI 32m stable with a bit of luv (1.57) I've only had the new chip for 1 day and I'm sure I'll be able to squeeze more out of it . I'm one very happy AMD Opteron customer!

Yes CAB2E 0546 FPMW are turning out to be the best overclockers. Even better than CABYE that everyone is so fond of. I am able to overclock my 146 CAB2E 0546 FPMW, to over 3. ghz w/ ease and w/ cheap rams. Am waiting for my watercooling and TCCD rams right now and as soon as they arrive I will post my results >3.1ghz
I know a retailer was selling them for $163 but as soon as the word got to them they increased it to $259. There wont be anymore 0546 FPMW's and we lucked out.

I got mine from this online seller for $163.
It is $192 but out of stock. Dont think they will have CAB2E 0546 FPMW anymore.
The sale person will tell you the stepping if you call their tollfree #(when they have them in stock).
Whatever you get (144,146,148, etc) make sure its CAB2E 0546 FPMW. there are some other steppings w/ FPMW extensions and are vey good too.

below sells them cheaper but out of stock. dont know if will tell you stepping

I've got a 146 CAB2E 0546FPAW but haven't had a chance to try it out. Do you know what's the difference with the A & the M?

That has to do w/ the batch type i think. I think F is the day of the week but not sure.
give it a try, maybe all CAB2E's 0546's are good productions.
sure would like to know.

I tend to find that the Opteron stretches the farthest on stock voltage, and after that, no matter how much more you apply, you'll see less than a 300mhz gain.

144 CABNE 0544 EPMW 2600mhz @ stock, 2850 @ 1.5v
148 CABYE 0542 FPMW 2800mhz @ stock, 3000 @ 1.52v
144 CAB2E 0545 MPMW 2700mhz @ stock, 2850 @ 1.5v

So you think CAB2E 0546 is a good week eh? I'll see if I can get my hands on one.
Tankguys has some. I need to hold off for a week first until I pay for my semester and books, then see where I stand. Hopefully he'll still have some in stock then.

Very nice.
I am still waiting for my Patriot XBLK (TCCD) get here so I can up the anti.
Yes CAB2E 0546 FPMW are turning out to beat all other steppings. And that?s w/ little vcore increase and no insane cooling. I bet if someone tries DICE w/ 1.68v 144 could break 3 ghz.
I am building a water chilled cooling system and hoping to go over 3ghz w/ my 146 same stepping. This chiller I am building cools water as low as 40F (5-7C).
Right now trying to solve condensation problem.
Some say use clear acrylic coding. Am looking into it right now.
Does anyone know a good way of taking care of condensation?

PDP XBLK+ PC4800 DDR600 TCCD kicks a$$ on my DFI!! I've gone 310 1:1 @ 8-4-4-3-2.5-1T, 2.9v- no errors......and I have a 144 CAB2E 0545 FPMW on the way!! My 146 CAB2E 0545 GPAW does 2.9Ghz prime stable @ 1.5v. Will boot 3.0Ghz and surf at that, but kicks out of prime after a few minutes. With one of those upcoming OCZ PC kits, 3.0Ghz is a given.

Where are you getting that the CAB2E 0546 FPMW is beating all other steppings? If from this thread alone, surely you must be kidding. Links otherwise? I'm interested in other results. Thanks.

Lets answer you w/ a q?
Show me a 144 that does better than CAB2E 0546 FPMW w/ 1.55v and no insane cooling.
I mean dont go to a chemistry lab and borrow some liquid helium2 to do it ...please, just stock HSF or water cooled to be fair to you.
Now.. get to work search the universe for it.

All you're showing is a CPU-Z shot and Sandra memory bandwidth test. Have you tried Prime95?

I dont know if you are refering to me or not. but below is 2.9ghz w/ Superpi 32M w/ a broken single stick of 522 TCCD. Broken because the other stick was bad and this one would not perform as high as used to do. As said I am expecting my 2x512 XBLK to arrive soon and will post my results. I am also building a water cooling system and will raise the vcore to 1.6v where it is the norm for opty to do higher than 2.9ghz.
About prime 95, well super pi is more intese cpu/ram torture as the core gets hotter.
I have experienced that prime95 will pass all day while Superpi will fail 32M.
Prime also know to have bugs. I prefer OCCT over prime but a believer in superpi 32M.

Below is another user getting 3ghz w/ same stepping and week. He/she says prime stable. Ask him/her which 144 stepping giving best results. He/she has bunch of opty's. dont know why so many but she/he keeps buying them

SuperPI is an excellent tool to test memory configuration, but it's in no way a CPU/system stability test. How about this?
My 144 CACJE 0546APBW
http://img474.imageshack.us/my.php?image=29997superpi32m7tp.gif

I could run SuperPI @>3GHz with the 144 but it fails Prime almost instantly. You can imagine what'd happen in 3D, eh? Also, HTT >333 is near max for even DFI boards, so that's another factor.
Well, it was sort of off-topic. I agree that CAB2E 0546FPMW seems to be a great stepping.

P.S. Has anyone tried CAB2E 0546UPMW (TankGuys carry them)?

Since we are talking about Opteron 144's in this thread. I thought I would stop by and see if anyone has heard/seen this one

CAB2E 0546 FPBW

I have looked pretty extensively for the last two days, but no one has mentioned this one. I have seen 146's with this coding, but not a 144.

If anyone has any information or can point me to other places to look, that would be great.

Thanks

You have a similar cpu to mine. I have an opty 144 CACJE also. It seems like these are great. I dont really "need" the max oc out of my cpu, so I just do a mild overclock. I run mine at 2.6ghz with a messly 1.425 volts. It does 2.7 at 1.425 volts but wasnt completely stable. Im sure with more volts it would probably do close to your speed as well. Id rather have a mild oc and keep things cooler and lasting longer.

Just to let you guys know, Mwave has the Opteron 144's on "clearance" for $179.99. I bought one figuring it would be the best I could find this late in the game, and I ended up receiving a CAB2E 0546FPMW. I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I hope I have as much luck with it as some of you. YMMV.

Used to have a Opteron 148 CABYE 0542FPMW. Did 2900 @ 1.45 12 hours Prime95 stable, but couldn't pass Prime95 at 3000 @ 1.55 (my mobo won't go any higher) As you can see, I can atest to the Opteron's hitting that wall.
