G.Skill 1gb RAM 3200

i have that exact ram but i bought a dual channel kit. the only problem i had was one stick arrived dead. their customer service is great though. i ordered the kit from newegg.
the one stick i am using for now is running 3-3-2-5 1T @ DDR460 so thats a good sign.
seems as everyone else has said, that G.SKILL ram is good stuff.

No, I'm using a Thermalright SI-120 with a 120mm Sunon 85CFM fan on top, with AS5.
When you're trying to get that high, every little bit helps.

was wondering what mobo are u guys pairing with this processor?

It very much depends on your existing vid card and $$ situation. If you want to buy everything (chip, board, vid card) then go with an Epox S939 board. If that whole setup costs too much (expect to pay $500 for those components total if you are a gamer) then check into the Asrock SATAII S939 M1695 which supports both AGP and the newer PCIe, allowing you to use your existing card and later pick up a good PCIe card.

The DFI Nforce 4 Ultra-D. It's what everyone should be using for overclocking

A210GDMS PRO mATX with onboard video (x300) and HDA. One used for HTPC with onboard, while another is gaming rig with PCIe x800 (I'm cheap, and motherboards were only $55, while CPU's were around $160, and x800 ran $114 after rebate). The low cost gaming rig hits 10,000 3dm2k3, which is good enough for now.

"naked bios" for Jetway has all the overclocking bells and whistles, but with the Opterons you don't need much.

It does max out at 300 MHz FSB, which is enough to get 3GHz out of my 146, and 2700 out of my 144.

Started testing mine yesterday. I'm running into the max HTT with Asrock 939dual. I may flash board to hacked bios. Then I can increase HTT.

Opteron 144 (9*270) @ 2.430 @ stock voltage & stock HSF
asrock Dual939 SataII
Geil (2x512) @ 221 2-3-3-6 1T

I can get more out of it with higher HTT. Hacked bios here I come.

DXtreme, whats temps are you at so far ? The general consensus on the Asrock board is the BIOS is the only reason why it won't go higher.

Just finished my build, with cabne 0544, system is idling at ~30C with stock HSF according to 9NPA+ Bios. Must finish setting up windows/drivers/etc, then will overclock. BTW, this thing seems SOOO much speedier than my old athlon t-bird 1.2Ghz, even at stock speeds.

Also, can anyone tell me if I should install the "AMD Athlon 64/AMD Sempron Series Processor Driver", even though it is an opty? I was finishing installing the drivers that came with the cd from my epox board, and this is the last one. Do I need to install it, or is there another driver I should use??

Temps are very good at 31C idle and 43C load.

Going to try the hacked bios now.

I found the answer in a thread here on the forums: there are only two sets of processor drivers from amd, the 32bit and 64bit. Use 32bit drivers for 32 bit windows, and 64bit drivers for 64bit windows. The processor drivers are generic, though, so you can use them on any of the opterons. thread is:

HERE.

2.4 stable. But that's not very impressive. I've tried higher, but I seem to have some problems with my RAM. For example, I set the CPU setting to 300 x 9 multiplier to get to 2.7 ghz. That works fine with a voltage bump. But, when I set the RAM above 200 (which is really 100 on this mobo, signaling what I believe to be a .5 divider), I run into problems. The way I understand all of this oc'ing on the mobo, I should be able to use the 266 setting on the RAM, which is the .66 divider, and get 198 (300*.66 = 198), which of course you double for the double data rate, and come in just under 400. My RAM, while very early DDR 400, runs at 400 when the cpu is set to stock, so I'm very confused. If I add voltage to the RAM, I can sometimes get into Windows, but still have Prime 95 crashes. Why wouldn't the RAM work at a touch under 400 with CPU overclocked, but will work at 400 without the CPU overclocked? Am I missing something, or do I misunderstand the interplay between "CPU setting," "RAM Setting" etc.???

I do have latest bios.

Oh, HT is set to "3." So That shouldn't be the problem. HT should be at 900, so that's less than the 1000 barrier.

For reference, I have a very early (one of first ones on first day sold) Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo.

Getting more with hacked bios.

Asrock Dual939 SataII (OCWB1)
Opteron 144 (9*290) @ 2.609 @ stock voltage & stock HSF
31C idle & 47C load

Ok, I just finished Priming overnight at 290x9 = 2610MHz, and it is entirely stable. Unfortunately, when I move up to 295x9, Prime fails after about two minutes...

Screen

The thing isn't even getting hotter than 37C at load, so its not a temp problem. Vcore is set to auto, so maybe that is what is limiting me. What confused me at first was that when the board has the vcore set to auto, it hovers around 1.55v. I thought that these chips are set to stock 1.4 volts, so what is that?

I'm going to bump the voltage up to 1.6 and see what happens. These chips sure don't look like they are going to be amazing.

My 144 CABNE 0544 EPMW is running at 2.7GHz now at 1.42V. I'll try to OC more later. Using a Quiet Arctic Cooling Freezer64 HSF.
