All i can say is this company rocks!

I bought my 165 1 day before they dropped their price to 270.00. Go figure! However, I paid for regular ground shipping and they sent it 2day delivery! Must be a christmas gift or a nice mistake. Crossing my fingers, I then called them up to see if they would credit my card giving me the new price and they did !! I was very impressed with their customer service.
Plus my CPU got here 1 day earlier than the fedex tracking estimated!

So 278USD$ total and I got 2day fedex delivery.

I'm ready to test this baby out now! When I ordered 3 days ago they had 300 in stock and my stepping week is 0546.

I'm still trying to decide if I should stick with my a64 3700+ or go with the opteron 165. Damn decision making.

I ordered at about midnight last night and had a tracking number from fedex by about midday today - I went with the standard shipping but it's showing up as fedex 2 day and scheduled to be delivered on the 29th! Definitely fast service which is very nice except for the fact that I was planning on heading out of town on the 29th and wasn't expecting the shipment to arrive until next week.

Now I just need to figure out what mobo, ram, and video to get to round out this system. Any suggestions? I have a dell 2005fpw monitor and would like to be able to play counter strike source and some of the other new games at native resolution (1680 x 1050)... I'm thinking that puts me in the realm of the 7800gt or gtx but I was hoping to wait for some price drops before building the new system.

I really need to get over this lust for hardware and save some money

Oh, any recommendations for heatsink / fan to go with this processor? I plan on oc'ing but nothing too extreme.

I went with the mb/vid card combo (both Evga) at ZipZoomFly, some Corsair TwinX from Newegg and a Artic Freezer Pro from SVC.

No..the is little difference...the opteron is server chip so supposedly better reliabiltiy..maybe ?? overclocks a little better...both toledo cores

the extra L2 cache on the opterons can help some apps

The craze over the opteron is the cost vs X2...
