I know. Why people would buy Socket 939 CPU's when Socket AM2 is around the corner is beyond me. Everyone knows Socket 939 CPU's will automagically cease to operate as soon as Socket AM2 is out. Poor suckers, wasting $300+ on a dead CPU.

good luck getting $50 for this CPU once the AM2 CPUs come out in a couple of months

[pwned]

You're full of it. There is no way the 165 will drop under $200 at the time AM2 is released.

wow that's some horrible logic. I can understand if AMD is drastcally altering it's micro-processor's architecturess, but the upgrade from DDR to DDR2 is seriously ignorable if you already have a kick ass 939 system, especially considering Brisbane (65nm) won't be out until all the way to H1 2007. If you don't have socket 939, then by all means wait for AM2 and be a sucker testing the BIOs/drivers for me. I can understand waiting for Conroe if you only buy Intel, but waiting for AM2 because 939 is "dead end" is ridiculous.

If you think 939 is dead, you should reconsider your X800pro, memory, and raptor lmao.

Well, if you already have S939 setup and you're just upgrading the CPU, then fine, but if you're buying a new S939 mobo and DDR1 memory, then it's a bad investment. DDR2 is faster and cheaper. And AM2 CPUs with their built-in DDR2 memory controller will be a lot faster than S939 cpus of the same speed, not to mention that newer faster CPUs will not be released on S939, so it's gonna be your last upgrade on S939, so better make it last...

sad? dead end? welcome to technology...

It won't be another 6 months for the release of AM2... and it WILL take a while to hit mainstream (premium will be high at release)

I am sure in a month or two they even get cheaper. Price are dropping take the AMD X2 3800+ for example. Cheers

If I jumped on this will it be a big jump from my A64 939 3200+ @ 2450?? Im only going to be using it for games with a x1800xt so I want all the ey candy turned on and res to the max.
Also will I need different mem other then my non ecc OCZ ddr 400?

No, it will be a step down for current games, as they only utilize one core, and the core of this opteron is slowwer then 2450 mhz. (though with 1mb of cache per core, vs the likely 512kb cache of each core on your 3200+, this will not be too much slowwer)

LOL @ some of these people trying to rag on 939. This deal just might possibly give you the potential to have an FX-60 class processor via overclocking for $300.

So, AM2 will come out magically and this would be dog-slow? Please!

Thanks again OP for the heads up, this deal is sweet, I'm glad I ordered before the code expired. This will be a great farewell to 939!

Thank you for the correction.
I should have thought about that too. Those Opteron 165's do seem to overclock nicely from what I've read.

Yes I am aware. It was meant for hardocp people. Monarch rep is a member there. I know...

However, it seems like a moot point. Many people who are members here are over there as well. In addition. All hot-deal forums all steal deals from eachother. If I didnt post it, someone else would have. Someone else posted it on fatwallet as well and 2 other hot deal forums. It just goes around in a big circle. If they expect to post a deal in a public hot-deal forum and have it not get around, they are kidding themselves.

People are like sharks when it comes to saving money.

Thats just BS to me, why should a deal be exclusive to a certain forum? Money is money right?

Marketing. Companies do that sort of thing so that they can see where traffic comes from. By offering exclusives to a certain forum, they can gauge how "important" and well known they are on that particular forum. As soon as the deal gets spread around, it's useless as a research tool. That's my guess anyway

Did you even read what you linked to?

"Announcements of delays the last few weeks now point to a July release date. Whenever the launch happens, those moving to AM2 will at a minimum need a new processor for a new Socket 940, new DDR2 memory to replace existing DDR memory for Athlon 64, and a new or revised heatsink/fan cooling solution. "

AM2 is now slated for July according to rumors. Its currently February. 5 months until release + 6 months minimum to avoid the bugs of new mobo/ram/heatsink issues equals just about 1 year. I lost interest in playing the early adopter game long ago.

Mine says it was delivered at 9:40am this am to shipping/receiving in Charlotte, NC. The status says "Delivered." Very odd, never seen this before.

Yeah its a FedEX error. I already called. I guess all the bunch of packages from monarch and whereever else, they decided to scan them all in at the same time lol... So they are all gonna show that. You can call if you wanted. But its nothing to worry about. You just wont be able to track it.
