My vote would be for the X2. The extra cache is nice on the opty, but not worth double the price. That said, I stupidly just got the opty anyway. If the extra $100 was a big deal for me I'd definately get the X2 instead. As long as it clocks about the same +/- a couple hundered MHz who cares? A 2.5 to 3 GHz dual core for less than $150 is a hell of a deal as long as E6400 and other low end conroes are still unavailable.

EDIT on the CCBBE...

I hit my wall around 3.2 GHz on air but it takes more voltage than I'd like. 3.1 GHz takes 1.60 vCore, which I can live with given the temps, but I admit its living dangerously. If I had any brains ( I don't clearly) I'd be happy with 2.9GHz at only 1.45vCore. But naaah, I've got to play Oblivion at 3 GHz+ to compensate for the fact that I'm short

So as far as I can tell the hype is pretty real. I can't seem to go as far at default volts as some, but I still get the 3+ GHz that I've been hearing about. Even though its OEM and not retail like my "old" opty, it looks like the old opty that ONLY does 2.8GHz is going into the rig I'm selling.

Anyone interested in an 'FX-62' rig with MSI Neo Platnum + based system with an eVGA 7900 GT? You choose how much tuning you want. With the volt mod the 7900GT is stable at 720core and 1740DDR mem. This is 2.1v MEM and 1.5vCore (within spec)
You will have to replace the stock cooler though, or I'd be happy to do it for you, but I don't have a zalman laying around. With the stock cooler I will only leave it at stock volts which give 650 core and 1640 DDR, still a nice OC. The difference is about 1000 points in 3Dmark06, which admitadly isn't all that significant. I'll spare you the reast of the details. I'm looking for $1500 rig tuned and loaded (Raid 0 Raptors and other nice stuff, lots of softwar all legite with lisences and everything) - considering the time and care its a steal, its essentially the cost of the parts. You can't touch this system from dell for example for even close to $200.
