Meh, my 165 same stepping from Monarch wasn't stable at 2.6 w/ 1.5 volts. Just ebayed it for what I paid for it, it was a fun experiment

Went back to my trusty, and cool running, X2 3800+ @ 2.4

Since the Opty is such a fine processor that many of us are looking to purchase, can we have one thread that clearly explains good and better cores to look for? It seems like finding this information requires extensive reading and searching through threads. This thread could also contain ifnromation on where you could have a better chance of getting certain cores, etc.

2.6 @ stock? Wow, I wonder if this is to do with my mobo or the 8.5 multiplier (which is now shown in BIOS and probably not officially supported) but my chip (same stepping) fails prime at 2.55 GHZ, 300*8.5 with stock voltage.

If i had water cooling, i wont hesitate to push her to max volt @ 300~320*9!

One thing about RM clock, is it safe to have such a big jump from say, 1.2 to 2.4 in matter of seconds? I noticed after i quit a game, and i check my CPU monitor, it shows some violent oscillation, and some times the CPU switches from the idle to full load 4 times in less than 10 seconds. I got a little worried and set my idle clock to the default 1.8, but down volted it to 1.10V.

Amazingly, while the stock clock is 1.8 and stock volt is 1.35, it primes just fine on only 1.10 V with about 3C cooler both idle and load. Can someone answer my concern?

if u have the dual core drivers installed ..maybe its raising the voltage to be stable with the load...

Actually 2.4 Ghz is very common for the X2 3800+

Initially, people were getting higher, but it seems you're lucky to get 2.4 Ghz these days.
I was one of those unlucky ones who can only get 2.4 Ghz too, & even that requires a small vcore bump.
