Originally posted by: SynthDude2001I agree, the retail box 165 is only about $12 more at Monarch than the OEM is, and you get a longer warranty and a pretty nice heatsink for that money. I guess the warranty isn't too much of an issue if you overclock (which I believe voids the warranty?), but the heatsink by itself is worth at least $12...

Yea but it's not as robust as an after market cooler.. Don't let looks fool you. I'm at 77C right now and it idles at 42... Really light weight with a 70x15mm fan spinning @ 2500 rpm max.
Actually it is only $4 more. Why? Because Monarch specifies that you HAVE to buy a heatsink/fan combo from them if you buy an OEM CPU with the motherboard combo. Cheapest HSF is $8 and most of us probably won't go for any of the Thermaltake units that are the other alternatives.Originally posted by: SynthDude2001

Question...is there a relatively easy way to replace the fan on the stock heatsink with a bigger one? And, assuming that is possible...would you then recommend sticking with that, or spending the extra money for an XP-120 or something?
(FWIW, I'm still thinking I might go for the ASRock board with the resistor voltmod since that sort of bypasses the BIOS control in a way...adds +0.25V to whatever's set in the BIOS, as I understand it - and a few of the beta BIOS versions seem to work reasonably well. That is - assuming I can mod it without destroying it or find someone willing to do it for me - or unless I can trade my 6800GT for a PCI-E one easily. )

What are you, a moron? The warranty is ESPECIALLY useful to overclockers because, if they fry their chip, they can return it and claim they did nothing to damage it. It's called lying and human beings do it ALL the time. Welcome to the real world!

Got mine from Mwave today. CCBWE 0534SPMW for me too, guess that's what their shipment was. Running pretty stable at 2.5 right now, on the 1.42-1.44v the Neo2 gives me when I ask for 1.5v+5% over vid. Could probably get some more out of it, but I'm not sure how safe I feel running the thing at 1.5v when it's 1.3v stock. I suspect the XP-90 could probably keep it cool if I toss another.05 at it, just not sure how safe that would be.
Wondering what to do about my ram. This stuff just doesn't seem to overclock that well, and it seems my choices are 2-2-2 with the 133 divider for 180mhz or so, or 2.5-3-3 with the 166 divider. Might do some more testing on that, but it didn't O/C well with the old winnie I had in there, and I'm not expecting any miracles out of it.
The stock heatsink is most impressive looking for a stock heatsink. Didn't even bother to try it though. Might replace to stock cooler on my g/f venice with it, might just sell it along with my old winchester.
Didn't see much of an improvement in games, but didn't test too much. Is there a utility or a way to create shortcuts/settings for programs so they always start out with affinity set to one core or the other? Going into task manager and changing it manually every time could be a real pain.
Discovered DVD shrink was in fact multithreaded, causing me much joy.
Kinda wish there was a way to independently change the multipliers on the cores, since it's always core 1 faulting out in prime 95, while core 0 goes strong.
All in all though, I'm quite pleased. $300 for something faster then an $800 4800+ is nothing to sneer at, y'know?

Best combo. Board can clock sky high.. has mem voltages to use that ram (BH-5).. Has best on-board audio.
Perfect OC would between 2600-2800Mhz and run memory 2-2-2 200-245 Mhz depending where you set divider. (166/183)
Uh, if your question is, Should I get the SLI-DR, then yes, if you want to do SLI in the future then get it. Or you could wait and get one of the new "Xpert" ones. Otherwise just get the Ultra-D.My question with this is, isn't it true I can't go SLI and get the same performance? I have thought about going SLI in the future, but I'm guessing it's probably not worth the cost of upgrading at this point. Usually when I upgrade I do board/cpu/video/ram all at once. Thanks for replying so quickly! That's sweet!
