Opteron 165 start.

I just called in to add a motherboard to my processor order from Mwave. The lady I talked to basically told me that when they told me they had 11 left over the phone that those had sold and they were discontinuing this product and because they didn't have it on the website any longer they wouldn't get more in. I told her over the phone that it was impossible because it just came out a day or 2 ago? She said I wasn't charged but she didn't think they were getting more in.

Doesn't that seem a bit weird? I talked for a while and finally the lady just told me Sergio would call me back about this... Has anyone else heard anything?

I've never jumped on SLi bandwagon for those reasons.

1. happy now with top end cards performance
2. Additional power consumption
3. Addtional noise. I water cool so the fans would go higher rpm introducing another 100W into loop. I really don't like to hear my computer ..

Even dual core CPU is debatable right now.. I only got them because I can setup my comp to do other things while gaming..encoding...downloading etc. Course power users like 3d animators and number crunchers would see the benefits immediatly.

Well I was going to order the One you recommended the Ultra D. Anyway Sergio called me back and told me they discontinued the processor and were not going to get any more in... "Period" Sergio's Purchaser confirmed it while I was on the phone with him and I repeatedly told him that it was impossible that they wouldn't carry this processor again based on it's popularity!

The result was when I asked for help upgrading to the Opteron 170 because of the error they wouldn't do anything, they didn't even offer to pick up shipping if I upgraded.

I told him I was going to share my experience with the community so here it is yall. I hope that any of you that ordered today don't have to share this experience. I placed my order at 11:20am or so central standard time.

Someone else in the Hot Deals forum posted that they had their Opteron 165 order from Mwave cancelled too, apparently they're claiming they're "discontinued". :roll:

They've completely vanished from Mwave's site, and Monarch is now listing an ETA of December 5 for the 165 retail box. I'm going to be very angry if I can't get one of these things.

i was just about to get a 165 when it started vanishing all over.

i saw the monarch time go from nov to dec like others reported

so i jumped on monarch 170 oem

it was like 356 (cheap for an oem ~43 dollars less then the none oem)
used the 10 buck coupong
with 2 day shippin was like 358. roung 40 bucks more the the 165, but at least it has the 10x mulit

Talked with some more people about this. Apparently AMD has backordered this Processor as the demand was far greater than anticipated...

So people are getting orders cancelled and it's likely people will start recieving backorder emails and cancellations. Kudo's to anyone that got their chips yesterday. Most places got 20 or so chips and were supposed to get 100+ more right away but they didn't. That really sucks...

Ya! Newegg finally has come down in price and I know I can get one there. Does it make sense to buy the retail for like $30 more if I already have an Xp-90? I'm thinking of just buying the OEM version and saving a few bucks. What do you guys think?

FWIW, I just did that. It's not as though there's much of a choice right now; everywhere else I've looked is on back order.

I went ahead and purchased everything from the Egg. I got the DFI Ultra D MOBO, the 165 Opteron and the OCZ ram. I can't wait to get my 7800GTX fired up with this whole system and see what king of numbers I can hit.

For a fan for the XP-90 I have, should I just put a panaflo on there or a different fan?

Hey zebo, don't worry about the epox temps. They're completely borked. Supposedly, my X2 3800+ runs 69C load at 2.6, 1.37vcore with a TT bigtyphoon and AS5. :disgust:

Take it slow.. stay under 1.55 volts I have a basic guide about overclocking...

The 165 is gone here also, so I decided for an Opt. 170
Just a few hours after I ordered the 170 is also on back order.

Mine should arrive tomorrow. I will post my findings sometime during the weekend.

Ordered a 165 OEM and DFI Infinity NF4-Ultra today - Can't wait to play. My current rig, MSI RS480M2-IL, 3000+ Winnie and GT02 @ 540/600 is severly CPU limited. Can't overclock on the MSI at all (okay, 220mhz FSB via software )

Got 1 from mwave, and a 170 & 175 from monarch

Monarch also quickly shipped out my DFI expert, and zzf shipped out my Geil ONE winbond chips.


3.8vdimm here we come! Lets see how this DFI expert overclocks.


I should have everything put together on saturday and will report back with LOTS of benchmarking.


I usually wouldnt care to do so much, but these opteron's are extra special and definitely deserve my attention.

I will first do a run of benchmarks on air, then follow by taking the best chip into water. Hopefully one of them will hit the magical 3gighz. I am very happy with my old DFI Lanparty SLI-DR. Managed to hit over 350mhz stable on the nforce4 chip on water, so the expert can hopefully do better.

Regardless, I know I am not limited by the low multi on the 165, if the expert cant hang, the good old SLI-DR will, along with the corsair TCCD. I really hope that DFI figured out all the issues with high voltage ram, worth testing out for me anyway.

opteron 165 @ 3gighz (9*335) nforce 4 chip is already tested good past 350, but takes lots of voltage to get there.

memory: going to test Geil ONE BH and corsair TCCD

video card: trusty radeon x300 and geforce 7800GTX SLI

LOL what's funny to me is I was looking all over for a 165 & Newegg said they had none in stock then they found a box set & sold it immediately but I saw they added 4 OEMs. I did a quick check to see about the OEMs and when I went back all 4 were gone...

Now I know who's doing the hoarding around here..

S'allright though, I found a retail for $327 & just recieved the UPS notification...

Also on a more interesting note; I must have tried 20+ vendors to find one with the 165 in stock for a reasonable price. I had several vendors tell me the item was discontinued. So I called the AMD Technical Service Center at 408-749-3060 (hit 0 then a couple of * to get out of voicemail & to a human).

The first call, the woman who answered said they were a current product but when she went to find out more info & my suck A%^ Verizon cell service dropped the call. I called back & got another person who checked and after 5-6 minutes on hold I was told the 165 has officially been discontinued.

That doesn't say that there aren't stocks of 165 to be had but new ones aren't happening anymore.

This has a high degree of suckability...
