Opteron 170 cancled!

I think I'll watch the market closely. If by the end of May I see Opterons being taken off the internet, I will one. If I see Opterons go up in price between now and the next 2 weeks, I'll buy it then.

Well, according to AMD they're going to stop producing Socket 939 Q1 2007 to make way for AM2 and future sockets.

Also, Opterons are better because they run cooler/lower volts/higher OCs in turn because of htat.

Someone more knowledgable than I am, please expound on this... If memory serves, since the Opty 170 is a server class product, don't they have to produce it for a minimum of a number of years to honor the lifespan of the products to the end user and producers of server class equipment?
