Is it to late to get in on this? I want to buy the 165 version with 2x1mb L2.

What weeks are people getting now from etailers like ZZF?

Looking to hit 2.5-2.6 on air. Is this still reasonable with my setup in sig?

Got a CCBWE 0546MPMW Opteron 165 OEM from Monarch on Monday.

Haven't been able to run it yet, still waiting for the motherboard.

It seems that you already have a 3200+ winnies that is doing 2.6GHz+ on air. Why would you want a new CPU?

I am in the exact same situation. Same chip, stepping, still waiting on DFI ultra-d. Should get here Friday. A guy on xtremesystems got 2.6 out of it on 1.5 volts on air. I'll be happy at 2.5-2.6. I will report on Monday.

I got a retail 165 from monarch...of course delivered and next day..oem is in stock and $315..then a day later $300

My retail chip wa a 0534 MPMW@2610....hits a wall...no 2650/270...I may get a touch more but it was quickly tested to be nearly 13hrs dual small fft prime 95 stable

I have to run memtest, rerun small fft and large fft

however dual core really in everyday stuff does not seem any faster and maybe a touch slower than my venice3200@2750 with ram @250 3-3-3-3-7-1t(vs 165@2610 with ram@217 2.5-3-3-7-1t)

so if no heavy multitasking...do it for fun or testing(I realized I might not see much of a difference but still a bit disappointed...everyone said booting is faster, apps open faster...not for me..I installed AMD driver , MS hotfix too)

Yea, I am a dual core user too, and I honestly don't find it any better than my previous FX-55.

Debating whether I should switch back to the venice...I definitely agree with the minority the DC has a place but for me the average joe...little gaming, surfing, some dvd burning this was too much hype and a waste of money

I need to run a few games and hope I do not lose anything there...that would be a huge bummer for me

I say stay single core until we really see benefits and by then my 165@2610 will be slow

oh well..could not resist

I got mine from monarch last week and it's a ccbwe 0543tpmw. As for gaming this thing is blowing away my 3500 winnie. I've run several graphics benchmarks and there's just no comparison. Anyway both ati and nvidia are releasing dual core optimised drivers at a rapid rate so you will see a difference.

0543 170 or 165 ..just curious..oops just saw you got a 175...

I am glad to here this...

I have had my system running for a few days and just started to use it..less tweaking now as I think 2700 is a no go..but let's face a 45% o/c is awesome 1.8-->2.61

I just need to rerun dual Prime96 small(again) and large fft and memtest 86

I have also read/heard that there is very little if any performance gain when Gaming on a dual core.

I have 2 gigs RAM running dual channel and as most have reported this makes a BIG difference when loading new maps on BF2.

The RAIDed Raptors might help some also, but 95% of the time I am the first one on my team to hit the ground when new maps load.

Lately I have noticed more players starting to spawn when I do.

Also I just bought a g15 and can see what my CPU and Memory loads are when playing/loading maps on BF2. There may be more accurate apps for monotoring system resources, but I'm seeing CPU usage spike to 100% a few times during map loads.

Long story longer.. I want some of that 'early spawning' edge back when loading new maps on bF2 and I'm thinking that having one core to run my OS+ whatever needed background apps and one core to run BF2 would have to be of some benefit if only when loading/unloading maps.

If anyone has tested BF2 map load times with dual VS single core I would like to know if there was any decrease in load times. This is the main reason I want dual cores. Besides I have had this Winnie for a year and while she's been good to me,I kind of want to try something new, like twins

I think I need another MB (higher HTT) and more vcore

and faster RAM to really get the most from a new CPU though..

Edit- Hey thanks for the info Puffnstuff  Looks like Monarch is the place to go for the best stepping?

I might need to go 170 for the multiplier as I'm running 9.5 right now @278 HTT and don't know If I can get much higher on this MB.

Live and learn I guess. I should have got the DFI or A8N32 as it's all about the HTT these days..

Murd0ck...I have no idea if DC will fix the spawning issue for you..hopefully someone with more knowledge would know

As for a new ram..Zeba has shown in games CPU mhz is king...ram helps a small amount..so I would not spend more on high bandwith/low latency..not cost is not worth it...you videocard is more important...and one sweet piece

Personally unless you want to play with it...I am just not convinced yet it is worth the extra money

I agree about the RAM. Having the 2Gb dual channel has made the most difference. The Corsair I have is decent for this air cooled rig.

Anything faster (RAM) would be much less bang for the buck compared to a better GPU like you said.

This is my first AMD/OCed rig and having had some success and also having discovered some limitations along the way(HTT,vcore, mem) I am, like most other newly hooked overclockers trying to resist the urge to build another rig.. One worthy of the 10" fan, 10"heatercore, 24V PS and seperate aluminum housing with just enough room for an RD-30 pump..

Since I'm even considering spending $280.00+ on a fr33kin WC pump you know things will likely get much worse before they starting getting better :Q

I don't think I could get all those dividers to work on my setup. Maybe I have memory controller issues I dono. I will have to play around with that Gogar's Optimizer some more. Also I don't think my RAM will go too much higher with decent timings.

I just thought having the ability to run a higher HTT could give you more options especially with chips that have the lower locked multies. If you can get all the dividers to work. Unless you have RAm that will do 500+ DDR. Right?

At least thats what I was thinking.

the higher htt will not make much difference

faster ram helps but bottom line is faster cpu is still most important

I asked whether 8x 325 will make any difference 9x 290 both are 2600...so the faster fsb is not much of a benefit, if any

if you can guarantee 2.8ghz fine but as we all know OC is YMMV....
if I could get a 165 or 170 that would do 2.8(so that it is faster than my old venice..I would sell or trade my 165+ cash)

Nice. Good luck with it, let us know how it goes.

I still haven't bought yet. I'm hoping the newer ones will have just as good or better OC's than the early ones.
