Optical Mice?

As you all probably know, optical mice come standard in the USB interface. However you are provided with a USB-PS/2 converter plug with your mouse, so you can use it with a ps/2 computer. My question is, if you add a ps/2-serial converter onto the end of the usb-ps/2 converter will the mouse work in a serial mouse port?

Only if the mouse supports serial mode operation. Several people here have tried it, with no luck.

It would depend on the mouse, though.

I tried it with my bro's.
His got a Microsoft Optical Mouse (nothing flashy) and my computer only supports serial. So i tried to use it with a converter but it didn't work. So is there any other way that i can get it to work?

Do i have to get a new mobo with ps/2 support or is there some kind of ps/2 card (this may sound stupid, most likley becaise i am)

Oh, and is there such a thing as a serial optical mouse? That comes standard with a serial port? anyone?

Why not just get USB support... nothing beats it currently aside from maybe USB2.

No there are no Serial Optical mice, I don't even believe a serial port would be capable of properly hadling an Optical mouse. I do know for a fact that there are PS/2 add-on cards that you can buy, I've only seen them in ISA but I would imagine they would be available in PCI also. Unfortunately I'm not sure where you might be able to acquire one.
You can also buy USB add-on cards, that may be more practical for you. And they are also considerably easier to fine then PS/2 add-on cards, though possibly a bit more pricey as well.

So with this all i would need to do is buy a PCI-USB card with i would presumably plug into one of my free pci slots and then i would have a usb port?

A USB adapter would be easier to find and much more useful than a PS/2 addon card. You'd suddenly have access to USB printers, scanners, modems, NICs, mice, keyboards, cameras, etc, etc, etc. A PS/2 addon would just add PS/2 mouse support.

And yes, they'd simply plug into a PCI slot. They're pretty simple cards, really, just the USB controller + 2 ports. Cheap & easy.
