I think the whole point of this thread was becaus the 4x media were $2 per disc whereas 2x media can be had for half that price.

Nice try though.

Optodisc.... hmmm.... I wonder if they're rebadged princos.

Princos were labeled as the more inferior quality discs by other websites, whereas Riteks are emerging as the bang for bux media.

I might pick one up anyways since I rather purchase form newegg rather than PCclub or any other websites I've never dealt with.

i had nothing but problems with those discs in my pioneer a05 drive

the first 2gb usually worked ok, but after that it was full of unreadable sectors.... i ended up buying some ritek dvd-r discs and havent had a coaster yet (probably burnered between 50 and 75 discs)

i still use the optodisc when i need to backup data and its only going to use less then half a disc (even so it still makes coasters about 1/4th the time)

**edited to add***
by the way just to clear up confusion the optodiscs im refering to are the exact same ones linked to in the original post... they are gold labled model #GR470-C50-011-01

I have a pioneer a05 also and I got a 25 pack of 2x ritek from shop4tech for 29.99 and my burner wouldn't even recognize the riteks. Do you think I just got a bad batch of riteks? I bought some fuji dvd-r and they work fine in my burner. Does anyone know if the pioneer a05 doesn't work with certain riteks? I am scared to buy more until I know they will work.

the A05 works great with ritek G03 and G04 (the G03 is officially 1x, but they are high quality and work fine at 2x if your burner supports it... the G04 is 4x)
ive used tons of those discs and they have been used in 3 different pioneer A05 drives, never a coaster with any of them

but ive never tried the older G02 discs... do you know what ritek's you used? also what software do you use? the newest nero 5.5.10 has some bugs with dvd's... the best version of nero for burning dvd-r is 5.5.9.17

I've had good luck with the Ritek 4X and not so good luck with the Princo crap. Unless you have a spare PC to let it sit and burn for an hour at 1X then the 4X are definitely worth the $2 ea price. Plus, the purple is kinda pretty Oh, and I use an OEM Pioneer A05 v1.21 firmware. The Ritek 4X burns a full video DVD (via DVD2ONE) in 15 minutes - that's smokin! :Q

I use Optodiscs on a A05 and they work fine w/ the exception that they only burn at 1x. Every coaster I've made was a result of my own stupidity. I think they're great disks for the price and much better then the dreaded Princos.

I can't get them to work with GTA and GTA Vice City, FFX or Kingdom Hearts for my PS2. And for the games that work.. takes longer to load and more laser seeking sounds. This is comparing to dark Riteks, all burn at 1x.

InuYasha, purple/silver Riteks work flawlessly for your ps2 compared to the optodisc?

Jhill, I'm with you. I know everyone raves about the Riteks, but my A05 drive won't even see them. When I put any Riteks in my drive, it says there isn't a disc in there. I can't even run Nero CD Speed to see what gen Riteks they are. Wonder what's wrong. Princo seems to burn fine at 1x though... and I do have the latest firmware.

5.5.10.0 had severe problems with DVD's. The changelog for 5.5.10.7 says they fixed it, but I've not tried it yet.

The Ritek G03 discs only burn at 1x with the A05. They will burn at 2x with the A04 if (and only if) you use the special 1.31 firmware.

I bought some of the Kypermedia discs from Microcenter, and so far, 1 for 1 in coasters. I'm able to burn at 2x, and it completes the burn. Tried to play it on my DVD-rom, and it locks up half way into the movie. I'm returning the other ones I had.
