Optorite DD0203 reboot problem

I bought this drive from NewEgg.com and installed it two nights ago. I immediately updated it to the latest firmware (2.16). It seems that ~4 times out of 5, when I insert a pressed or burned CD/DVD, the drive spins up and my system reboots. I get no errors or warnings. When I insert a blank CD/DVD, it's fine. After my system comes back, I'm able to browse the folders and files on the CD/DVD. I was able to play a retail copy of "The Matrix Reloaded" DVD (after a reboot). I've yet to try burning a DVD or CD. No other CD or DVD drive has caused this to happen in the past. I emailed Optorite's tech support yesterday and am waiting for their reply. Has anyone had this problem or know what I might do to fix it? Thanks!

I've had the same problem, my o/s would bluescreen/reboot after trying to access the drive around 6-7~ times, and it did the same with my other dvd drive that was on the same ribbon, so I didn't think it was a drive problem, turned out I had the drives on the Primary master IDE channel, and my hdd was on the secondary( I cant believe I didn't notice that before, but never had a problem so I didn't think it could have been an issue). After switching them and using the exact setup as Optorites install manual shows all went well im having no problems at all with the drive, except The drive being detected as "Generic 4xdvdrw" and on the drive there is no "optorite" label anywhere on the drive, when compared to newegg's picture there is an optorite sticker, but this is a optorite, the sticker shows and model DD0203, but that isn't really a problem. I flashed the bios to 2.23 and all is finei n which isn't really a problem. Anyhow, this drive is very picky about the IDE and jumpers being setup perfectly, so try that and it should fix it, glad I could try and help.

I had the same problem too, but it seemed to be happening on all my optical drives, including my CDRW, my DVDROM, and the DD0203 when the DD0203 was installed?! When I took out the drive, the problem disappeared. I'm sure the DD0203 was a master on the Secondary Channel but that didn't fix anything. I finally gave up one night and placed the DD0203 on another machine and I didn't have a single problem after that. Here are my 2 setups that I used:

Setup 1 (system w/ the problems using the DD0203):
AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz
Iwill KK266
512 MB Crucial PC133
40 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM
Nvidia Geforce4

Setup 2 (system w/ no problem using the DD0203):
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Soyo Dragon K7V
512 MB Crucial DDR PC2100
20 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM
10 GB Western Digital 5400 RPM
80 GB Maxtor 5400 RPM
Nvidia Geforce 3


Optorite did release a new v2.30 firmware. I can't say if it would fix the problem b/c Optorite never release documentation with the firmware. But its worth a shot?
