They'll go back away when KU goes back to their losing ways again next year. Mizzu shouldnt been in this game, not KU. They beat KU, KU's last game. Yet they get passed over, despite beating them, and playing a much harder schedule.

And no, conference superiority/strength still means a lot. The SEC is still easily the best conference from top to bottom. And with the month+ lay off between games, hot teams can go cold so easily. Its silly to have to wait that long to play a game.

They don't call it an at large bid for nothing... KU's AD drummed up commitments for 14,000+ Kansas supporters to go to whatever BCS game they may be invited to. Combined with a one loss record, that is what got them the spot in the Orange bowl over Mizzou.

Go Hawks, go Big 12!

fixed your post

WAC 1, Mountain West 1, ACC 0 in 8 years. VT better NEVER get the benefit of the doubt again. The ACC is by FAR the worst BCS conf, and has been for a decade. A joke.

Haha, its funny that a K-State fan is saying that.

It may not be as storied as some other programs, and we have stumbled the last couple of years, but KSU has had a lot better success over the last 25 years than KU has. See how many truely arrogant KU bandwagon fans popped up this year during the season, the amount of douchebags probably doubled last night. I'm just saying that it's been a great year for KU, but next year they have a MUCH tougher schedule, and will likely be missing a couple of good players, so nothing is certain. Through the 1990s and early 2000s, KSU earned it's swagger.

" With the amount of parity in college football today, even one 11-win season is rare, which makes Kansas State?s magical run from 1997 to 2003 with six 11-win seasons even more incredible. The Wildcats were just the second team in college football history to accomplish this feat. K-State went to bowl games all seven years during that span, won its first conference championship since 1934 and received its first Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowl invitation. Not surprisingly, many of the stars of those teams went on to have successful careers in the National Football League, while those and many others will live in the memory of every Kansas State fan."

"In his 17 years as head coach at K-State, Snyder won 136 games ? as many as his predecessors had won from 1935 to 1988 ? and led Kansas State to eleven consecutive bowl games (1993-2003)"

"Success and high rankings continued over the next decade, including six top-ten finishes in the AP Poll and a perfect (11-0) regular season in 1998 (before stumbling in the Big 12 Championship Game). As the team improved, recruiting also improved, and Snyder was able to bring in athletes such as quarterback Michael Bishop, the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1998, and running back Darren Sproles, who in 2003 led the nation in rushing and holds the current Big 12 all-purpose yards record for a career. The run of success culminated in a Big 12 Conference championship in 2003 with a 35-7 victory over the #1 ranked University of Oklahoma."

LOL...and yet a pair of tickets to this game sold on ebay for $0.06. The stadium was not even very full last night. The upper deck appeared to be about 70% full, if that.

KU sold those 14,000+ tickets to the ONLY BCS bowl it has ever been too, after it's BEST season ever. That's a joke.

While I agree that some consistency needs to be shown, but in the end does consistently just good mean anything if you never actually accomplish anything? I mean, a KU team (that people still say isn't all that good) has already accomplished more than K-State (and yes KU as well) have ever done. Hell, K-State's best season they just whined about getting screwed over and unlike Missouri (who got screwed over the same), didn't prove that they deserved anything. Also, if you want to talk about bandwagon fans and consistency over the past 25 years, maybe we should talk about the basketball side of things?

KSU won the Fiesta Bowl (as a Bowl Alliance Bowl) in the transiton year between the old system and the current BCS. To me, that's an equivalent mark to what KU accomplished this year. And we sold over 30k tickets to the game.

As far as basketball, even though that's not the topic here, both KU and KSU have strong history in round ball, albeit KU's a little more consistent in recent times. KSU was named one of the top 20 Basketball schools by SI.

You've got to start somewhere... I agree that fans shouldn't worship Mangino or Reesing as messiahs and think that the Jayhawks are going to "win it all" next year. On the other hand, just because a school has not been a historical football powerhouse doesn't mean that it can't turn that reputation around. As far as whether or not they deserved to be in a BCS bowl game, if you don't like how the system treated Mizzou, then bitch about the system. The people running the Orange bowl could have just as easily picked Mizzou for that game but they chose Kansas at large.

I did my undergrad at KU and while KU never was great while I was in school, I still enjoyed the football games. After leaving school, I would try and watch as many of their games as I could catch on TV. I'm not a bandwagoner... I didn't expect KU to do this well, but I did enjoy their success. Is that a crime?

I did my graduate work at Notre Dame, and the Irish had their WORST season ever this year. Guess what, I'm still an Irish fan and I wear my ring and jersey with pride. Why? Because I went to Notre Dame.

no, if you read my posts, you will see I'm talking about the fans who don't even know a thing about the team or football min general, and who are thumping their chests and basically being total asshats. I have no ill will towards the average fan, in fact I'm happy for them, just not the asshats who seem to think that KU will be a national powerhouse now based on one season.
