"1 x 30 Hour Limited Dial Up"

Dial-up, the DSL is unlimited. Or, it better be for that price. Those installation charges are total rapage...

i had speakeasy dsl for about 2 years a while back... its a great company w/ great service, but I switched to cable, and I'm getting 3x the speed for 1/2 the price.

Very highly rated... very highly tempted... I need more bandwidth with six computers sharing 256/128 ADSL. Gaming is supposedly much better with SDSL, but at $89/month for 384/384 is $35 more than I am paying now... Plus changing ISPs/email addy, etc. is such a pain...

this looks to be similar to the deal shacknews is doing w/ SpeakEasy. But I think shack is throwing in some xtra freebies.

I had SpeakEasy DSL before I got cable, and the pings were great for gaming. Plus they run their own game servers so you are only a couple of hops away.

details here

After I saw the Shackdeal I finally just went for it. I wanted something reliable, and Speakeasy appears to be pretty highly rated on DSLReports.com (as far as DSL ISP's go). They installed my 384k/SDSL line in 8 days, and it was very painless. Download speeds are as advertised (30-40k/second). Ping times are what I was really looking for cause I want to play games! I'm pinging 25-40ms in game on my favorite RTCW server

Their prices are a bit steep, but like other's have said, you get what you pay for. Plus they have the $125 rebate going on right now, the free GeForce 3 Ti200, and plus I got the first month free, so it wasn't too bad

Here's a two thumbs up for SpeakEasy DSL. Service and support is awesome! I've been with them for almost 3 years now. 768/768 SDSL for $79

Total uptime: 99.98% (that's 1.7 hours of downtime over 3 years mind you).

Its the TYPE of DSL that causes the price difference. They vary in up/down speeds. Traditionally cable upload speeds stink like dialup - some of these DSL packages have a fulll 1.5 up and down - comparable to a T1. Thats why theyre so much more expensive.

I know Verizon DSL is considered horrible, but I get 1.5/256 for $59.99/month, plus I got the free install kit. I haven't had many problems; only 2 outages (of more than 4-5 minutes) over the past year.

the reason why SBC can charge much less is because THEY as an RBOC (local monpoly) control the copper and in turn charge the DSL companies $30-$40 a month for just the access. this does not include installation, modem and such. so that would explain why covad, northpoint, rythms and such went under. although covad was actually saved by SBC because after everybody else died off, the FCC was on their tail.

oh and RBOCs around the country have racked up $1.8 billion in FCC fines and such since the passing of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, to them its just a tax write-off. so they will continue to be anti-competitive

Here's another prop for Speakeasy. I've been using them for about 2yrs. Switched after my other ISP went outa business. Speakeasy is great. My download speed (ADSL 384K) is very close to advertised. They are very reliable and the customer service is actually pretty good. Compared to many these days ... just the fact that support exists at all is a bonus.

So for those of you who have been sitting on the DSL fence, Speakeasy is a great outfit .... getting a free GF3 is a huge bonus. I'd jump at it if I didn't already have a GF3 TI200 and am already getting speakeasy DSL.

My speakeasy is $62/mo. Yes, I could get cheaper but why change if you don't have a problem.

By the way, Speakeasy is out of Seattle and I'm in New Mexico so this isn't just regional.

I've had Speakeasy 768kbps SDSL for about 6 months now, and couldn't be happier, even taking into account I pay $160/month.

would the speakeasy 384/384 SDSL package be good enough for 2 people to play games on the internet at the same time? I have AT&T cable 1200/384 and the service has been awful, whenever 2 of us are playing at the same time, pings jump to 1000. im in boston.
