I ordered a PS3 and I got it mostly for blu-ray and watching hulu and netflix on my TV, but I wouldn't mind playing some games too. Any must have games?

I've been mostly a PC gamer for a long time and play mostly FPS games lately. I also like RTS and some RPG. I hate sports games.

Anything fun and simple to pick up and play casually, maybe for short periods at a time, and that you can save instantly?

yeah, just rent the games. seriously.

Assasin's Creed is great if you like doing the same shit over and over.

I mean...it's fun and gorgeous at the same time. whatever. I found myself doing the same shit over and over, again and again. and I liked it enough. buggy as hell, though. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is fun, hard as hell though. I never finished it. want my copy?

Dark Sector is a fun solo shooter if you can find it at the normal sale price of $10-20, it's not worth more than that.

There isn't anything I'd pay $60 for right now since I have a gaming PC for Fallout 3.

Download the demos for Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted and Valkyria Chronicles then look for a hot deal or get gamefly.

I have AC on PC and never finished it.

I'll take it if you're giving it away.

I did order MGS 4 though. Hopefully I like it better than the last few.

I might join gamefly, just to try out some games.

Is there any problem in buying used PS3 games liek there might be on PC (DRM crap and stuff?)

I also ordered the Logitech Harmony remote adapter for the PS3, so we'll see how that works.

Nope.

Supposedly BDs have a special scratch-resistant coating so PS3 games should also be less susceptible to becoming unplayable due to disc damage.

EDIT: Also, Valkyria Chronicles is worth checking out. It's a unique tactical RPG.

if you didnt really like the previous MGS games you won't like MGS4. At least that was me, i couldn't even finish it, it was too boring and clunky.

used games are fine too.

i'd recommend Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Resistance 2. Oh and Street Fighter 4.

one of the reviews i saw for MGS4 said it was better than the previous ones in gameplay. Guess I'll find out.

Uncharted is great, Eternal Sonata I have yet to put down, Soul Calibre 4 is always fun..

Now that we got those out of the way.. Download WipEout HD from PSN ASAP!!

Just a note: The best PS3 games are still to come, just wait for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Heavy Rain!

Please tell me you didn't pay $50 for something that takes up an outlet just to allow you to use a Harmony remote with the PS3. I mean we all would like that convenience but come on!

Valkyria Chronicles is awesome.. it is an SRPG, so kinda like FPS/RTS/RPG in one.. I loved it.

I got Dark sector new from newegg for $10 shipped, but I havent played it yet.

OMG!!! I ordered the PS3 on Saturday and it arrived today!!! I love DELL! That's twice now that I ordered from them and had the item way sooner than expected. Hell, I didn't even get the tracking number for the PS3 yet!!

it's doing an update to 2.76 now.

questions:
can I use a wireless USB keyboard with the PS3?
what about a wireless mouse?
I want to use the PS3 to stream netflix and Hulu. I understand I need some 3rd party application to do this. Is it easy to install/use?

Get PlayOn to stream Netflix and hulu .... it installs onto your desktop and you can access the PlayOn server from your PS3. Very easy to use and very good.

ps3 media server for all media sharing needs. Beyond that the new UFC game is great, MGS4 is good, fallout 3 is good (if you don't have a 360), oblivion is good, killzone, gta4, etc

ok, so i got it ps3 media server working but how do you watch hulu or netflix videos through it?

i got the trial for Playon and that works flawlessly, but not sure I want to spend another $40.

hmm...some searching on the ps3 media server forums suggests that it doesn't support it and is against Hulu's TOS?????

seems like playon might be the winner here.

i downloaded some demos but only played 2 so far. MGS4 and Uncharted. how do you guys play these games? it's impossible to control my character's movement and even more difficult to aim and shoot...

are you coming from pc gaming? if so try the inverted control.

but just practice and time will fix it.

Shooting seems retarded when you are used to a mouse. If you stick with it you'll get used to it, but it'll never be as good with a mouse. When I first got my ps3 (first console since genesis) I had a love/hate thing going on because of the aiming. I guess I just got used to not being able to control it like I would on a PC. I still don't play FPS on consoles, but driving games and action platformers aren't bad. I didnt like Uncharted demo at first either, but I ended up loving the game. In shooters like Uncharted I would essentially stop so I could line up a good head shot, as its hard to do them on the move like with a mouse. I learned to essentially play it like a Rambo movie: just keep moving and firing. Not everything needs to be a head shot. I relied on melee a lot as well. By the end of the game I felt better about the controls, and each game like it I complain less and less.

If you get gamefly, I recommend Spider-man: Web of Shadows. Heavenly Sword was kinda cool. SF4 and Soul Caliber 4 are excellent. Midnight Club LA is good as well. Burnout Paradise is only $20 now new. And Infamous comes out next week. Dont play GTA4...you have to work up to that. Even for a console game controls are sh!t, but at least it has a lock on so you dont have to really aim.
