Ooh...not liking the brand choice for the CPU or GPU. But then, that's just my personal opinion. XFX doesn't seem to have a very good reputation for service, quality, or anything for that matter . Also, judging by your part choices, you like to game. Intel is not the best choice, but I'm assuming you wanted to keep your existing motherboard, so the 670 was the best choice out of what you had..
I had the same thought about the GPU. I couldn't get the Gainward as it wasn't in stock anywhere. The XFX is clocked at 490/1300 so it should last, ooo half an hour. I also looked for the BFG but all I could get was a standard clocked version and I don't do standard versions. Maybe a bad choice, but I'll report back once i've kicked it's @ss.
My current Mobo wont run the 3.8 as it's a socket 775 CPU and my mobo is 478. So, I bought the mobo a ASUS P5WD2 Premium last week and it was feeling like I had forgotten about it.
Plaguing me now. Might cancel the XFX and see what else I can get!!
Wait a second...you had to get a new motherboard and you went with Intel?
If this computer is mainly for gaming, which I'm assuming, return it ASAP. You spend roughly $820 on that, combined. Instead, you could've gotten:
Athlon 64 X2 4400+ $560 shipped
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI $145 shipped after MIR
Not being a fanboy; it's common sense. Look on any website that does CPU benchmarking [start with this site if you want] and you will see that Intel continually and consistently gets a beating by AMD in almost all areas. Gaming is the major one, but most categories show AMD with a nice big advantage.
Hehe, I knew someone would mention AMD. Believe me, I have had some stick on this forum, however, always informative. It's not a reason or an excuse but I have always had Intel stuff, except once I owned a Cyrix 166+. Shhh don't tell anyone.
The CPU is £370.54 in the UK and the mobo is about £80. I paid £385 for the P4 3.8 and about £150 for the mobo so not a great difference so price wasn't a contributing factor at all. I'm not bothered about SLI to be honest. Did that many moons ago using 2 x 8mb Canopus Pure 3D's (now they were kick@ass ).
Now I'm not a fanboy, just more comfortable with Intel. I was gunna wait for ATi's R520 but cannot be bothered to wait. What ever you buy there is always summut faster the day after.
I may be able to recover £300 to £350 for my ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, 2GB PC3200 Ram, Gainward 6800GT GS, Zalman 400A PSU and 3.4GB S478 P4. Makes my upgrade about £780, not too bad. Oh forgot the 80p on the bar of chocolate.
Thanks for your comments, always willing to listen, even if I don't hear if you know what I mean.
