some of the responses telling him how to go about maximizing the kill count is quite chilling. Obama is right. I'm numb to this now. No amount of logic or rage will change anything. The gun lobby is too strong. People who hold their guns dear care too much about their right to own a firearm than others' right to live. So why bother getting worked up?

Being a gun owner myself, I'm just tired of the crazies getting their hands on guns. It seems time and time again their mental defects are often ignored and substituted with "Oh my angel is just shy and reserved, he'd never do anything bad!"

People suck.

Thanks to gun threads I've learned that tons of ATOT'ers are actually hunter-gatherer-cowboys who live on massive remote Montana ranches teeming with mountain lions and wolves and must single-handedly protect and sustain all that surrounds them, most importantly the little lady and the young-uns, from atop their pony with nothing but their wits and a trusty rifle.

You would be amazed how it is in a farming area. We have had to call 911 a few times. it takes 20 minutes for a ambulance to get here. then 20 min to get into town. IF we have a fire only reason we call is to put out the embers. No way can they get here in time. I'ts nearly all volunteer so they have to get to the fire station then to the house. a good 40+ min

yes we have wild animals looking to eat livestock. we have coyotes, wolves and such. hell we even had a bear here in IL.

and the cops? again it could be 10 min or a hour. We have to wait for the County to get here. Dekalb county is rather big..

Why are we arguing about this? This is so simple its stupid. Ban guns. The Constitutional right is antiquated. There is no longer a need to hunt game or join a militia.

Yea, really simple. I'd love to see your proposed way on going ahead and doing this.

I struggle with balancing my total disdain for gun-culture/gun-politics/gun-tards with the obvious and logical want/need for many people to own them.

Being unwilling to address the issue head-on leaves me with little other than anonymously harassing people on the internet.

It's the best I can offer. :|

i understand that.

It's a fucked up situation. You have insane people hellbent on causing chaos and destruction. Guns are easy to use and do a lot of damage in a short time.

but ultimately i feel it's not the gun that we should be discussing. it's WHY these people are doing it and WHAT we can do about it.

I have read everything from this guy was bullied and finally lashed out to he has autism.

So I'm just going to throw this out there as an indictment of how big a problem it is...

316,545 vs 313.

316,545 deaths from all firearm related causes(homicide, suicide, accident)

313 deaths from domestic and foreign terrorism.

These are the numbers from 2004 to 2013. Even more disturbing is that firearm related deaths have risen 12% in that time frame.

It's almost comically absurd that so many people have died in just 10 years. It's the equivalent of wiping out a city the size of Pittsburgh or Cincinnati every 10 years.

As a gun owner I am open to more restrictions on guns. We need to keep guns out of the hands of insane people. Get rid of the gun show loopholes and make background checks a requirement for ALL gun transfers/purchases.

I've owned guns for nearly 25 years and a gun has never made me safer, never been used to prevent a crime. They are locked up nearly 100% of the time and the only reason I take them out is to go to the shooting range a couple times a year.

I am unarmed nearly 100% of the time and it doesn't worry me in the least.

How many have been wiped out by diabetes, heart failure, lung cancer, dui, drug overdoses during that same period? All for poor personal freedom driven choices.

How many of those deaths were gang related? How many were drug related? How many were other crime related?

How many were true innocents killed by otherwise non criminal activity, such as mass shootings?

Your number is meaningless without understanding the context. That is ehy the ldtt buries you in such numbers, because it is a convenient tool to use against the unthinking and unknowing.

waggy, I already asked...but you didn't answer.

What kind of help for the mentally ill?

Who determines who needs said help...and what form will it be?

Who pays for this mental help?

Do we just warehouse the mentally ill in asylums like we used to do? If so, who pays for that care?

It's great to say, "We need to provide more help for the mentally ill," but it's never as simple as it sounds.

WTF does that have to do with anything?

And how do you determine that? How can anybody be truly unbiased? Could you then have an uber liberal anti gun sheriff thst decides he doesn't want anybody to have guns and looks through decades of personal history to find a nit to disqualify? It already does happen in places.

Then how do you prevent the slippery slope of being able to expand classification of mental illness. After all, one man's freedom fighter is another man's insane terrorist.
