Oregon mayor loses election to strip her of her position

Oh, the irony. They "stripped" her of her position for "stripping" in a picture on a firetruck!!!

Now, I am a big proponent of having a pretty strong moral character (don't read Saint/Mother Theresa) in those that hold public office. But the hangups that people in this country have over sex is to the point of lunacy.

This woman was fired for having a picture of her posted on MySpace by a relative of hers to help her get dates. The picture is of her in a bra and panties standing on a firetruck and is as tame as can be. Her reason for the picture is that she was submitting it for a fitness competition and from the looks of it....I believe it 100%.

The woman is/was in great shape and could be in any fitness competition in the country and did this years before she was even mayor.

to be fair, some voters also cited other mistakes she had made, she fired two people from the city run golf course and some of the residents that like to golf voted against her for that

I was just talking with my wife about this and she was talking about the double standard re:men vs. women when it comes to things like this.

I couldn't help but say to her that it sucks that a woman posing in her underwear for a fitness competition gets fired when the pictures come out but a man who poses in speedos for a fitness competition gets elected governor of California.

Why is she stripped down to her underwear in a city facility, posing on city equipment? I think that's a serious issue if she did it while she was in office. That picture in another setting should not be a big issue.

I certainly can't imagine recalling someone over such an insignificant, stupid, reason as this? I looked at the picture, read the article and fail to see what was so awful. The only angle I could come up with is that she was the Mayor of the city and it was a city firetruck, but since the picture was taken some years before she was even elected mayor, I don't see how that would even come into play?

So yes, it leaves me wondering if the picture is all there is to it?
