You guys with the agenda are going to have to remove soda from that list of yours...gasoline passed it (price/volume) awhile back.

Gas prices will keep going up until something happens politically that causes the price to go down. If the liberals in washington wont allow us to build more refineries then prices will be higher...if we can't drill in the gulf or in alaska prices will be higher. Demand is at an all time high, refining capacity here in the US is above 93% and there's no sign of it softening.

Perhaps you shouldn't drive as much. Carpooling and biking are great!

I don't get 250 miles/gallon. Sorry.

gas prices keep going up because it's a non-renewable resource. period. as commodities become more and more scarce they are more and more desired.

jesus... didn't any of you watch waterworld?!?

Is your response supposed to make sense? Because it sure doesn't.

Either you're saying that *you* don't get 250 miles per gallon (of what?), but that you drive 250 miles a day (on one gallon of gas?) or that *your car* doesn't get 250 miles per gallon of gas, which doesn't really jibe with your original statement.

You said I shouldn't drive as much. Well, 20-25 miles/day isn't a lot. And that's about as far as I'll get on a gallon of gas in pure city driving with the A/C running in this 94-95F heat.

A gallon of milk can last me two weeks. A gallon of cough syrup probably would last a year.

dontknow1's comparison is ridiculous.

Perhaps you should have said that in the first place, rather than obfuscating the discussion with
I don't get 250 miles/gallon. Sorry.

It must be nice to have AC in your car.

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

I love these idiotic comparisons like this. They crack me up.

BTW, how long does a gallon of cough syrup, soda, perfume, etc. last in your household? A gallon of gas will last me about one day.

I'm not saying I have a gallon of any of those things, all I'm saying that gallon for gallon those items (well excluding soda but including alcohol bottled water etc) cost more than gas, albeit gas is more of a neccesity

MUCH more of a necessity. People tend to require something like 15-20 gallons per week of gasoline. FAR less than the other items. It's a poor comparison.

It strange that watching CNBC, the analyst all say that oil futures should level off in the $40's sometimes in the next 6 month, but many have been saying that for over a year. The weak dollar and "PURE SPECULATION" (fear, terrorist going to blow up the pipes and sink the ships, etc.) is driving the $60ish price, nothing more. Supply and Demand factor into an equation, but it's a much lower equation.

Since OPEC oil is based on the US dollar, the weak dollar hurts them in the pocketbook. They weren't going to sit by and have less purchasing power because of the weak dollar, so the price was adjusted (with fear priced in) to up their purchasing power in US dollars.

O.K. those maybe a poor comparison but how about drugs such as insulin etc
That is a neccesity for some

Excellent post...eventually I feel it will level off in the 40's...I work in energy, and I can say I would not count on it anytime in the next 3 months. I think prices will stay in the mid 50s to mid 60s for much of the next 6 months before we begin to see them start to tick down.

Closed at $64.90 today. Up $1.83. These are 2008 futures, IIRC. So looks like high oil/gas is here to stay.

I love it especially when all the Elitists in here said it would never hit $70 when I posted that months ago.

I'll really be happy when it hits $90 and they stop that crap about it being adjusted for 1981 inflation.

A little OT, but a story that I thought I would share while I was on vacation, something that many of you see everyday in towns across the US (maybe world).

I went to Myrtle beach last week and the first day there, a Saturday, I was amazed at the shear volume of cars "cruising" the strip. I don't mean kids driving Corolla's, I'm talking about Tahoes, Hummers, Durango's, TrailBlazers, etc. until 3 am in the morning. The strip in front of the hotel was congested as far as I could see from the 5th floor until I went to bed at 1 am. Woke up at 3 am to still see some of the same large vehicles still "cruising". Add the idea to thousands of places in the US doing the same. It's a gas using paradise here and the price has no effect on people just driving up and down a highway just to show off. Maybe small compared to normal highway traffic each day, but just an example of how much is just wasted....just pure waste.

That figure will also get bumped up (remaining considerably higher than the current price)--you can almost count on it.

Ah yes, gotcha.

When we start getting near $90, they will say it would have to get to $120 barrel adjusted for 1981 inflation, of course.

You're right, come tot thinkof it, I bellieve they used to say either $60 or $80. Can someone find what number they were using, I don't remember it being $90.

After adjusting for inflation its approximately 72dollars/barrel...from its high, we could easily eclipse that

What point are you trying to make? How many diabetics are there vs. how many that drive? Last I checked, my health insurance didn't cover gasoline for my car.

Did you see the mass of trucks blockading parts of South Florida in protest over rising gas prices?

BTW, anyone remember the days when the Propagandist was criticizing Clinton and Gore over the price of gas and demanding they do something with the Saudis to "open the spigots" to lower the prices?

http://www.time.com/time/teach/glenfall2000/4-5.html

The prices were $1.00/gallon LESS just 5 years ago.

Hmmm...the Propagandist is certainly very tight-lipped now. I guess it's because those lips are firmly entrenched around the Saudis' arseholes.
