How much do you guys up there pay for gas right now? Is it more or less than the 48? Wonders how much it costs in Hawaii? Must be pretty expensive.

Did you know it costs about 5-6$ to get out one barrel of crude oil from the ground in the middle east. Where does the additional 56$ come from?
It can't cost that much to refine.

Gas just went to $2.69 here YAY.

I am so happy.

When I bought my car it cost only $22.35 to fill now its $40.35.

Come on oil men...can we see $3.009 (can't forget the 9/10 of a cent) by the end of the month? or will it be SOONER

-the area with the trees and snow, but with some rocks.

Alaska is nearly half the area of the continental 48....I say bring out the drills.

What are all you guys sad about?

The higher the better.

It will reduce American's dependence on Middle East Oil remember?

The only thing it's going to do is lower my dependence on my car.

It'll also reduce your dependence on your wallet (cuz it'll be empty!)

Lately it's been less. Way less than places like California and other large population centers I've been reading about. I paid $2.45 for premium last time I filled up.
We brew our own up here. I saw a sign for regular this morning for $2.33.

Hawaii gas prices are always ridiculous. When I was there in February they were in the $2.80's. I'd bet they're over $3 by now.

One can reasonably understand why price would be higher in Hawaii

It depends on the island really, O'ahu usually being the cheapest. In fact, their highest price on honolulugasprices.com is still 7-12 cents CHEAPER than the price all around me. Must be the price cap they instituted?

More like 20%... but still. It's a very, very, very, big place. On Saturday the GF and I are driving to Valdez. Averaging 70mph it'll take 6-7 hours. And that's only driving across half the state. If you drive from Deadhorse (AKA Prudhoe Bay) to Anchorage it's a 13-15 hour drive.

Supply and demand. Why in the world would you sell it for 6 bucks if you can sell every barrel at 10 times the price? Because the supply is limited, buying it is like an auction, with the oil going to the highest bidders.

8-17-2005 High gas prices widen divide between rich and poor

Though the current price spike is unlikely to generate stagflation or bring back WIN (Whip Inflation Now) buttons, it is being keenly felt by low-income workers, who spend a larger portion of their income on necessities such as food and fuel. For someone who drives 15,000 miles a year and gets 20 miles per gallon, a 60-cent jump means an extra $450 a year at the gas pump.

Though that might not seem like such a big deal to those in the more comfortable classes, it's far from trivial for workers already struggling with soaring costs for housing and health care.

Consider the cruel calculus of rising fuel prices faced by low- and moderate-income workers in high-priced communities. Many have been forced in recent years to commute longer distances because of rising housing costs. Now, they have to pay more to commute.

Rising fuel prices will have some impact on overall spending patterns. Money that goes into tanking up is money not spent at Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Starbucks. Energy-consuming industries such as airlines and trucking will suffer.

But the biggest impact of rising costs might be social rather than economic. They will accentuate the growing divisions between those eking out a living and those who find themselves well-off.

NO ELECTRIC CARS ON HORIZION!

Until the cars can be made complicated enough to keep the dealer's auto-shops in business.

The idea of an "real" electric motor is unrealistic, since an electric motor is generally much smpler than a gasoline engine.

There are so many things that can go wrong with a gasoline engine . . . I mean to say, that a gasoline engine really keeps a lot of people busy.

Gas was 88.9 cents per gallon in Georgia last January 2002
Today it is over $2.60 per gallon...

Lets see 3 years = 300% increase

Obviously there is no money in fuel
