Hello everyone,

I have some job openings at my company right now.

Let me give some very general details about this job:

Its a sales/marketing job for a major computer reseller.

Salary is very entry level, but the potential of earning a lot of money is there. You get a decent commission off your sales. You get your base salary no matter how badly you do. Of course, you want to do well and get commission as well. The job has full benefits after your probationary period (I believe it's 90 days).

I see a lot of people come and go from our company -- turnover is high. However, the people that I see stick around and become successful are the ones that have very good product knowledge and are willing to put in the time to make money. I know most of you guys here are very knowledgable in the computer hardware/software field.

This may not be the dream job you are looking for, but it's a lot better to be making a little bit of money than none at all.

My company is located in Torrance and Irvine, California. We have other branches throughout the country, but I don't know if I can recruit for out-of-state.

I would rather not disclose the name of the company in the thread, but I will gladly communicate with you via PM.

Please feel free to ask me any questions via PM. I will be up front and honest with you.

If you wish to submit your resume, send it on over to me here.

I will submit it directly to the head of the HR department.

Thanks for reading, and good luck!

Dunno who is doing the current coding, but it doesn't seem to work in Opera 7.1. Just FYI.

(I'm willing to help if needed; I volunteered PHP & MySQL help, but haven't really heard back concretely about what I can do, if anything)

I've got a potential three month contract position available in Seattle, WA. I work for a major financial firm (top 5 in the US) and we're looking for someone to help out supporting our proxy infrastructure. Skills needed are..

5+ years of network engineering or unix system administration
A detailed understanding of proxy servers - what they do, and how they do it, troubleshooting, installation, etc.
Experience with load balancers (F5 preferred) - Troubleshooting, installation, etc.
Proven history of packet analysis (Ethereal, Sniffer Pro).
In-depth understanding of the HTTP protocol

Currently we have ~30 proxies across the US supporting 30-50 million hits/day, 280Mb/s of Internet bandwidth across three data centers.

If you're interested and qualified, drop me a PM.

Well this is a little depressing.. I just got laid off this monday from a job I really really loved. There was an old thread a while back about who thought they had the best job and I posted there mentioning how everything was just perfect... Anyways I guess I should have seen it coming - I was the only software engineer working on new front end applications that no one was using yet. The apps got cancelled and now I'm looking for a new job. The worst part is I just moved in a week ago to a new apartment 15 minutes away from work. I took a week off to get settled and the day I come back to work I got the bad news. I'm now stuck in a 1 yr lease in a new apartment that's potentially far from jobs I'm applying to.

Anyways it's not all bad, my wife just got a job offer for when she graduates and I'll get unemployment benefits. I'm a recent graduate from MIT with experience in C#/.NET framework development looking for a position in the Boston area but also looking in the Oregon, Washington, Colorado areas. Those three areas are where I eventually want to settle in so it'd be nice to head there.

I have a few friends that work for Epic Systems here in Madison.
Here is a listing for the positions they are hiring for right now. From what I've heard, this company is expanding rapidly (i think they will double their employees in the next 3 years), so there are alot of jobs to be had at this place, like developers, software testers, system engineers, etc. I think most positions require a BS....

Does anybody know if they have any job opening around the Philadelphia area? Suburban areas be great too. My dad in law needs a job, since his old job moved down to North Carolina. He lives in Norristown and I'm tired of him always sitting around at home not doing anything to support his family.

I guess I'll throw my hat in the ring...

I am located in the Denver, Colorado area.

I was laid off from AT&T Broadband's Corporate Division a little over a month ago, part of the Comcast restructuring program. I am a veteran IT specialist and have experience with Novell and Microsoft servers ranging from Netware 3x-5x and Windows NT 3.5-2003 Server. I have worked in both medical and telecommunications companies such as Columbia Healthcare, AT&T Broadband as mentioned before, Qwest Communications, and several smaller companies, so I am comfortable in a small, medium, or large company. I am open for any challenge, and nothing would thrill me more than a job that would let me do both server and LAN/WAN maintenance as well as some desktop support where I can work with end users.

I would like either a long term full-time contract or permanent position. I have a potential job offer on the table currently at Qwest, but am awaiting funding approval to start. If anyone in the area has any openings at their company, please let me know. I have over 9 years of experience in IT, and was at AT&T Broadband for 2 years before being laid off.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer, and good luck to all of the other unemployed members that frequent this thread. Hopefully the worst is behind us.

I know it's a tough time to be in the market for a job nowadays, so I thought I'd see if I can help out some of you fellow AT'ers still looking.

I work for Washington Mutual Bank. Most people don't know it, but we're a very large company with 80,000+ employees across the US. I just did a quick search on our public website www.wamu.com for IT jobs, and there were 232 listed. Anywhere from entry level tech support to high-end techies and senior managers. We have major offices in Seattle (downtown), LA (Northridge, Irvine, Stockton) and Chicago (Vernon Hills), but there's positions scattered all across the country for various jobs. I'd encourage you all who are looking to check it out and see if you find anything up your alley.

If you're interested in a job, drop me a cover letter and resume and I'll try to get it to the right people. No promises, of course, but it's always nice to be referred from the inside rather than a cold call. Please don't use PM's here, send it to me via e-mail to jasoncurnow@hotmail.com. Be sure to include the position number you're interested in - It's listed in the job description on the website.

There's a lot of job grades, but generally Technical Specialist (T.S.) 1 is entry-to-mid level, T.S. 2 is higher end, fairly senior, and T.S. 3 (aka T.S. Senior) is a very high-end techie / architect. Same general levels for managers, PM's, etc.

Questions? Drop me a note via e-mail. (I'm not much for PM's)

Seattle position opening:

Unix administrator wanted fulltime through September. Must know Debian well; Solaris knowledge is a plus but is not necessary. Pay is DOE, but will range around $15/hr; this position is designed for a University of Washington student looking to gain experience as a systems administrator, but requires advanced knowledge of Debian systems administration currently. You do not have to be a student to apply for this position, but that is the target audience. Projects will include managing a six-computer, twelve-CPU cluster (which will require future upgrading); merging an NIS + Win2k ActiveDirectory into a LDAP user system; network booting the cluster, and similar scope of projects. In essence, you'll work with great toys, fun projects, and reasonable timelines.

If you have any questions, PM me. Send your resume, if you'd like to apply, to colerl@u.washington.edu.

thanks,
Rob

I'm in the same boat guys... looking to relocate in the Philly-NYC areas, since I'm originally from South Jersey (family there) and have a g/f in Philly. I'm currently a defense contractor for the Navy, a GIS Analyst. I can code in most popular ESRI GIS applications (ArcView, ArcGIS, MapObjects) and am currently learning how to code thin client digital mapping systems for the Navy... Know VB/ArcObjects/Avenue and am learning Java right now, have 1.5 years of experience, and a degree... Please PM me if you have any information, it would be greatly appreciated!

Ran a quick search for GIS in Penn
Pittsburgh, Ebensburg, Monroeville & Camp Hill areas have a couple of slots open.

Used FlipDog, America's Job bank, CareerBuilder, HotJobs to do the searches using GIS as a key. You also might try to use ESRI or the Arc family names

Good Luck

Hey, let me recommend an agency... Alternative Resources Company...ARC. Website is http://www.arcnow.com. I've worked for them before, and am on a project now with them. The same reps and recruiters and such have been in my area (Anaheim, CA) for like 8 years. That's an amazing amount of time in that industry.

They took care of me when I pulled a real boner and got my a$$ fired from my last project with them.

They pay decent, and weekly!

Maybe mention I sent you. I might get a commission. (In the interest of staying on-topic I'm gonna make you PM me for my info if you want to do it...)

Seriously, I love that company, but nobody seems to have heard of them. They seem to specialize in medical and banking industries. I know we just hired a total of 20 people (counting myself) for a project in Orange, CA. I became lead in 3 days. LoL And they're always looking for more techie types...

Help desk, programming, DBA, etc.

OH! I *do* have a lead:

Long Beach Mortgage in Orange, CA is looking for a DBA. Contact Lisa (crap, can't remember her last name...) at 714-541-5378. Get the operator and ask for Lisa in IT. She's a project manager.

I also have a sort-of lead on a position for a hard-core Oracle programmer (NOT a DBA!!!) in Anaheim, CA. If you're interested, e-mail me your resume and I'll forward it on. It's for a new start-up mortgage company.

These are full time jobs, not agency projects.

Good luck everyone!!!

Hey getting laid off wasn't so bad! I started job hunting a week after and starting interviewing right after that. My first interview was nine days after I got laid off and they really liked me! Actually I got an offer from the first two companies I interviewed with so that's pretty cool. The first offer involves programming autonomous robots for a defence industry company so that should be a lot of fun!

My advice is to learn new technologies (in my case C#/.NET Framework) that less people have experience with and become pretty proficient with them. That way you'll be one step ahead of most other candidates.

For those of you looking for jobs in the New England area:

Matt (matt@technicalchoices.com) is a pretty good headhunter that helped me in my job hunting. Contact him if you're looking for a job in the New England area and he'll see if he has anything on file for you.

He has an open position looking for an experienced Java2D developer for a software company in Connecticut

My future wife is kind-of looking in central IL. She has a useless degree without experience (MIS) & makes peanuts. It doesn't seem like jobnetworking.org is getting much use. That's too bad. Of course, I am hesitant about putting info out there. Guess you gotta put some bait on...
