Frankly, I don't have much faith that the IT industry will ever pick up again. Whose to say that those jobs that went overseas won't come back or that companies will try to get along without as many IT people like they are doing now?

I graduated in May '03, been looking since October 02. Got a couple of interviews (5-6), but that is all. I don't know what I am going to do. I am going to be taking my GMAT and GRE soon (September) and I will see how things go after that. So are you working a part time position or doing nothing?

I am actually working part time in retail. I was also working a temporary part time position doing a little bit of IT support and research, but that job ended with the new fiscal year. Those bastards convinced me that there was a real chance they might hire me full time, and so, I actually passed on another full time position. Live and learn I guess.

Your resume is very difficult to read; no spaces and very jam packed.

And "professional" is spelled wrong.

Thanks for the spelling tip.
I am NOT changing anything in it....

I posted a new thread for this, but here it is here as well:

We have a basic operations job available and we want someone who just recently graduated college in the San Diego area. The job basically will consist of operations work with linux servers, apache, mysql, php, etc.

Nothing super advanced, and pretty much low level stuff but a good way to get your foot in the door at a company. Not so much a programming position, but mainly operations/low level sys admin stuff.

Does anyone fit that bill? My boss is killing me because all he can find on monster are people with 8+ years experience whom we don't want.

Anyone?

We literally look to hire as in NOW.

Just curious, not that I have the means to move to California, but how much does such a position pay?

I don't think the job market is that bad. I work at a university in New York as a sysadmin and all the consultants/people I work with for outsourcing have offered me positions with them.

They didn't offer my boss positions though lol!

Please do your folks that are interested a GREAT BIG favor and mention the very high cost of living in San Diego.
Low level positions aren't of much interest to people who can't make rent.

It's really looking like the Whitehouse Administration is spinning that the Economy is getting better and that there is job creation going on while the reality looks very much the opposite. Here is the website of a guy that just lost his job and he has decided to take his family along for a tour behind the Whitehouse Tour

Job For John .com

This Whitehouse staff Tour is top administration heads going around to Companies in the Country that say they are doing well such as a stop at the Harley Davison plant.

I was at my universitie's placement office today and there where many job listings for people with 5+ years of experience and some for management positions. I don't get it! It's not logical to post such positions at a university becuase recent graduates would have nowhere near that level of experience! Am I missing something here? Someone please explain it to me.

I notice that at my school too. Now I know that some people who have graduated still look at those listings, but I am sure that a person with 5+ years of experinece will not be doing that.

Well a PhD can sometimes get you more than a gf can . Besides if she couldn't stand by you while your going through a tough time then how can she be a good life partner.

Still searching but I have had some consultant jobs here and there nothing long term but enough to pay the bills for that month. Sigh just coming out of a bankruptcy as well...goodie goodie. But things are beginning to look up.

I just learned some interesting statistics on the radio.

85% of job positions are never advertised.
2/3 of people got their current job through networking.

I got a job today...and it was through networking...not through a posting. I had zero luck through monster.com and other job search engines. You guys will have better luck if you just start asking around.

Heading out to DC on a job. Looked for 4 months and then 3 popped up within a week.

Things seem to be looking up slowly:disgust: Keep wearing out the shoe leather and tighten the belts another notch.

Congrats on the job landing Shiva112.

Hope you get the 2nd interview.
