Well now I've apparently been rejected from even Best Buy; during the Christmas shopping season no less. And here I thought my BS degree would be good for something. Silly me.

(I can send my resume to anyone interested

I am looking for webpages and/or other resources where i can find offers and information about local Chicagoland companies.

greetings and merry x-mas !

Edit:
I am not 'unemployed' right now...i am tempting (means: NO benefits, NO sick days, NO health insurance, crappy pay), doing some very, very low level non computer related job.
With me (in the same department) at this (very big and well known) company M******* are at least a dozen, all former software engineers and programmers who now do all the same lousy job...barely able to pay their bills, and *dare you*, come a day you might be sick, need medical attention etc...
And, despites all that, i am even glad that i have THIS job because i know it could be even worse, meaning: NO job at all or a job which is/pays even worse.

To cite a co-worker of mine: "The economy is so bad right now that only the strong survive" ... and "being strong" in this case means that you might literally bust your a** doing some "not so good" jobs for pay you never thought you'll ever work for..and of course keep up the positive thinking, sending out resumes, look around for other jobs...

greetings

I think this is why it seems like more people are looking for work. there are tons of us with jobs like these.

i am a temp too. graduated ucla computer science last june. i click buttons, update a mainframe, and some nt databases. a high school kid could do my job.

like you , no health, no vacation. oh and to top it off, my desk is in the server room and i work nights. so witht he air conditioning in here, its about 50F and im freezing my ass off at work.

like you i can say... well at least i have SOME sort of job, but like you i am looking too.

Honeywell says it will add 100 jobs at its aerospace operations unit in Albuquerque during the next two years.

The company said Monday it will be creating new military information systems under a $150 million contract.

I said from the beginning that if this thread just brings one job it is worth it.

I was laid off from my job today, along with approximately 1/3rd of the rest of the company. Those remaining aren't feeling too secure about their jobs either.

The upside is that job gave me two years experience in the game development industry, with a broad range of assignments including design, AI scripting, and audio programming. I also now have credits on two shipped titles (aparently shipped titles help a lot in getting gaming jobs - shows you can do what it takes to get the game out the door).

I would like another game industry job in the greater LA area, and more specifically I would like to get into an Associate Producer position, but any job that's interesting and challenging would be nice. Paying rent would be a good thing.

I have a BS in Environmental Engineering from MIT, have passed the EIT exam (an engineering thing), and have taught distance courses in System Dynamics (as part of MIT's distance learning programs). My references can attest to my adaptability and short learning curve on difficult tasks.

PM me or post here if you have any leads. I plan on PM'ing Rufio to see if he needs part time help for the remainder of the holiday season.

OK - here goes.

I am presently employed as an attorney at a Houston law firm. I can't stand it. I would not mind changing fields entirely, if the right opportunity came along.

I have:
1) mad people skills
2) unmatched salesmanship abilities
3) language skills - bilingual in English and Spanish

If anyone has any opportunities that they care to share, please let me know.

Thanks!

I work in the T-Mobile corporate headquarters recruiting department. If you see any jobs on the website you're interested in, PM me and I'll help you get a bit of an edge applying.

Check out my Sales Engineer Thread and see the phone interview questions they ask the Sales Engineers candidate for some of their positions.

http://www.magpiesystems.com/

Magpie systems is hiring electronic techs. Some guy at work got hired. Probably not for the CS/CE/EE crowd, more of a associate degree, technical minded people.

That's all I know about this job.

Forgot to mention, they hire all over the country. Just their head quarters is in Salt Lake city, but have lots of people in different cities.

Heather Doherty is the office sales manager for Atlantis Partners, an IT placement agency based in San Jose, CA. They can be reached at 408-295-9400 or via their website at www.atlantispartners.com. They place both general IT professionals and software engineers in the Bay Area, and she said she's always looking for good people, and said it was ok for me to post this reference.

These people do work hard at what they do; I say this from personal experience, given that as of TODAY, I am now employed thanks in part to her.

Hi.

Looking for a job, as most of the people here are

Have a Master's degree in information systems, a lot of hardware, network, database experience. Some managerial experience also. I am not much of a programmer (SQL, COBOL, very little C or Perl), but can do just about anything else that deals with computers
Will move almost anywhere, if the pay is sufficient.

PM me for resume.

The thing is, I think AT is smaller than you might think. I saw your post and I'm looking for a job but I'm not at all qualified nor do I live in New York. Of the 122614 members of anandtech, only ~8200 live in new york (assuming a random dist of at members across the US). But Anandtech forum members that are actually active are probably a lot less than 122614. And most of them are probably employed. After all, the unemployment rate for tech employees is only 5.8%. So 0.058*8200 = 476. And how many of those aren't active members? Maybe 80%? That leaves 96 people. And how many of them are qualified? How many of them read this thread?

Don't forget not everybody even works...there's plenty of people who are teens or just full time students who don't have jobs =p Or who could only work on vacation, etc. There's also the fact that many of the ATers are probably just geeks who don't happen to WORK in a geek profession =p I'm just a geek for hobby myself lol.
