This is a global economy. You can't want the benefits of gloabalization (exploiting foreign workers in some industries) without paying the price (losing US jobs in other industries). America was based on the concept of capitalism, free trade, and "build a better mouse trap for less". Well, face the music - others can make it better for less.

Your school should be able to provide some strong leads.

You are paying above average tuition and fees to them, let them earn some of the $$ that you are giving to them.

I visit career services all the time at school and they do very little for me, i always send them my resume and let them know whats going on and they are always very nice but never seem to help, i update my resume after every quarter with the new skills i develop from the classes and i take it to them and give it to them to put it on their servers and they haven't done anything for me

I hate to say I told you so but....

As the Ads on TV state, results are not typical.

Find out from Career services, the names of ALL companies in the general area that have hired people in your field from the school.

Then contact the state employment offices and explain your situation. They will be able to guide you in using certain available tools to track down all companies registered with the state that may have your type of work.

Also, if you are willing look at Eastern Ohio.

You are going to have to spend alot of shoe leather, knocking on doors.

If the Career services can not provide you with reasonable information, you may wish to consider asking for some type of tutition adjustment.

When you signed the sucker agreement, they generated an implication that they woiuld assist you in locating a job and that jobs in your field were available.

You can not expect them to hand you a job (at their prices, they should), but they should be able to marshall some resources to get you leads. IF they can not do that, then they will have failed in the implied contract.

Also, check out AJB.org, They work like any other job board, but also get the state unemployment listings.

alright, well i took a civil service test here for the IT industry for computer networking and about a week after taking it i registered online and everything and after taking it i thought i did really really good and after a week i got a letter in the mail stating that i didn't meet the minimum or something like that, it didn't list a score i have no idea what i got and now i lost the letter so i can't find the info on the back i would need in order to write a letter debating my scores and finding out what i got, since the letter i did get did not list a score at all just said i wasn't satisfactory or whatever... thanks for all your info i think ill pay a little visit to career services tomorrow and without breaking out the brass knuckles be as harsh as i can without coming across as a big meano to the ladies there.

My senior year of high school my guidance counselor helped get me enrolled me in the Cisco networking program at the local tech school. I graduated with an AS in computer networking in may of '01, around the time when the dot-com era ended. When all of the jobs disappeared, so did my girlfriend of two years and any motivation to get my CCNA. I bounced around for a while making ends meet by working as a chef and trying the whole rock star thing... Three years later, I'm back at the U going for my bachelors in CS, looking at getting my CCNA, living on my student loans and the food in my mom's fridge... There still might not be any jobs for me when I get done, but at least I'll have that piece of paper.

My first AT post! Yay me!

----------------------
Update: Just got a job on campus as a "microcomputer support technician". A sort of foot-in-the-door gig that will pay the rent and buy some groceries for the next few years while I finish school. Good luck out there!

Intel is hiring recent college graduates with MS or BS in EE, CE, and CS degrees at their Hillsboro, Oregon campuses. They are also hiring recent tech graduates for manufacturing jobs (also in Oregon).

Let me know if you want help with the process of applying or if you want more information about a particular department.

Does anyone know of any leads in Rochester or Syracuse, NY for CS or accounting grads?

I have a year and a half of experience in ASP.Net, C/C++, C#, Java, SQL, and XML. My gf has nine months doing pension and accounting stuff.

Looking through AJB.org just now, I spotted 25 listings for accounting and 75 computer slots within the past week within 50 miles of Rochester, NY

I did not try to filter them in detail.

Start digging into the lcoal paper for leads, contact any firms that deal with the type of work within the geo area you are interested in.

Also, use some of the other job boards.

AJB will also pick up anything that hits the state employment offices, however, they (state employment) can provide you with additional resources tailored for your local area.

Starting on Jan 5, 2005, we'll be interviewing for the second help desk we're opening out there.

I like doing interviews, but we're going to be doing HUNDREDS of them! Alternative Resources (ARC) and Tek Systems are sending massive numbers of people our way, plus we're doing an open house.

If you're looking for Level 1 and Level 2 Help Desk jobs, contact your friendly neighborhood ARC or Tek Systems recruiter.

I'm not sure where the open house is, but since the facility isn't yet built out, it'll probably be at the Sheraton Hotel in Englewood. But your newspapers and recruiters should have the information.

HOOK UP WITH YOUR RECRUITER! Just say you saw on the web somewhere about a big help desk hiring in Englewood! They will know what you are talking about!)[/quote]

Eh? I ain't clickin' unless you tell what it is. And I got my cane with leather flaps ready for you if you're spammin...

I just sucked down the linked page and looked at it offline.
Looks like a non-English site. Possible dealing w/ electronics bassed on observation of one of the pictures and some generic abreviations on the frist page.

Hey gang, I have the following positions open at my company (a computer support firm) in the Westborough, MA headquarters:

- Customer Service Representative
- Customer Service Manager
- IT Specialist
- Senior Consultant (Microsoft)
- Senior Tech Support Engineer (Linux)
- Marketing Comm. Specialist

There also is a third shift position available in the Shipping/Receiving department in the Marlborough, MA facility, and a handful of additional positions available in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Fremont CA, Connecticut, and Netherlands offices. For any of the positions I'm sure any knowledge of Sun's product line is an additional bonus, as that's our bread and butter (my job is primarily Sun hardware/software support, but I occasionally touch Linux, SAN, and Wintel cases as well).

You can email any resumes to star@townispSCREWSPAMMERS.com (remove the obvious first).

Happy New Year, here's to jobs for all in '05

Ok, it looks like the open house will be at the Inverness. (Ya'll are jealous that I get to stay there fully paid for by the company! heh)

If you do show up for interviews, I'll be the guy with the shaved head doing some of the interviews.
