ATTN: NYC IT Job Seekers

I am trying to break into IT. I have a few vendor certifications: A+ and MCSE. I know the first time is the toughest, and I am willing to intern while working odd jobs. If someone can help me out with these questions, I would appreciate it very much.

  1. Is there an equivalent of KIT List for NYC area?
  2. Where can I get a list of upcoming job fairs?
  3. Are there any job networking groups that I can attend?

Good luck to those in need. Remember to hit all of the basic job sites such as Monster.com, Dice.com, and look up all of the big companies in the town you are in.

Hi everyone.
I just started college this year, and I'm looking for a tech related job.
I'm willing to do just about anything now, but I really want a technical support job or a sales job.
I passed A+ cert practice tests with 9/10, but I don't have the money to take it.
Any suggestions? Only job experience I have is working at this tea shop for a month.

My senior year of high school my guidance counselor helped get me enrolled me in the Cisco networking program at the local tech school. I graduated with an AS in computer networking in may of '01, around the time when the dot-com era ended. When all of the jobs disappeared, so did my girlfriend of two years and any motivation to get my CCNA. I bounced around for a while making ends meet by working as a chef and trying the whole rock star thing... Three years later, I'm back at the U going for my bachelors in CS, looking at getting my CCNA, living on my student loans and the food in my mom's fridge... There still might not be any jobs for me when I get done, but at least I'll have that piece of paper.

My first AT post! Yay me!

----------------------
Update: Just got a job on campus as a "microcomputer support technician". A sort of foot-in-the-door gig that will pay the rent and buy some groceries for the next few years while I finish school. Good luck out there!

We are an internet marketing company in Miami Beach, FL looking for a person with strong accounting background who has the following skillsets:

- Access (Knowledge of basic SQL syntax)
- Excel (VBA)
- Quickbooks

The position would require reconciliation of all AR/AP on our books. We require someone who can work independently without much supervision, so self motivation is a must. Send me PM's if interested.

Thanks!

well, down here in Football Capital of the USA, Baton Rouge, Louisiana there are tons of IT openings.

good luck. the real estate market is cheap as hell, the weather is only unbearable six months out of the year, the people are all A+, only half of the politicians are corrupt, George W Bush won the state by a landslide and the city right now is absolutely BOOMING. Oh, and there isn't a swamp/alligator/pirogue for miles, forget your southern louisiana stereotypes (thanks a friggin bunch, Adam Sandler). This is the civilized, successful part of Louisiana.

look for the classifieds in www.2theadvocate.com and the career/jobs sections of:

I want to work for you, for free.

I'm a college student looking to get some practical experience with a reputable company. Basically something like an unofficial unpaid internship from my dorm, if such a thing exists. I need something tech related to work on to get away from my mind numbing classes and figured why not see if I can dig up a good opportunity. I think I'm a decent web developer, example at http://uhs.ucf.k12.pa.us (dynamic, MySQL and PHP, design from scratch). PM me if you have something I can work on. *shrug*

I need an entry level engineering job pretty badly. I just graduated out of UC San Diego majoring in Electrical Engineering with Software Systems Depth. I've been actively searching for 3 months with no interviews. I didn't get a chance to intern that much in college since I only had 3 years @ UCSD and transferred from a community college. I did a senior project at Northrop Grumman Corporation, have some programming experience (would like to focus more on hardware though), got retail commissioned sales experience, pursuing in getting a real estate license in the time being as I have no idea where my future is headed at this point. Been trying to apply to Northrop and Lockheed but nothing coming up for me. Just want to get some kind of engineering job so I can start living independently from my parents.

VONAGE HIRING BLITZ!!

I just got back from an interview with Vonage, and I was hired on the spot. It's a pretty crappy job doing customer care/tech support, @ 11.00 p/h, but if you're like me, something is better than nothing. They're located in Edison, NJ (about a 1/2 hour from the holland & verazano) and they said they are hiring about 600 new people. It's worth a shot. Good luck and happy hollidays! I applied through their website http://www.vonage.com , and got a call back in a few days.

Few CSC positions will pay for relocation. One of the ways that they keep their contract canibalistic costs down.
