Phoenix - No Relo covered
4 - 6 Months

TEKsystems is looking for a software engineer with solid C++ development skills in a Linux environment. Some architect experience is preferred. Any past experience with government contracts and army programs is desirable. If candidates have a background with embedded systems this would be a plus. This candidate will need to be able to do both C++ application programming as well as have some knowledge of Linux systems programming and system administration. This opportunity will consist of a Sr. level developer that will sit in on peer reviews and give technical feedback, and also be able to sit in on meetings with senior management.

Candidates must be US Citizens, and be local to the Phoenix or relocate themselves to the area. This project will be until the end of November 2005.

Please send resumes to stingley@teksystems.com

Below is opinions of mine only:

This is for CSC on an US Army contract that is developing a HUD for soldiers and the related communication systems.

CSC is cheap

I had talked to them 2 years ago on this type of project. They jerked me around for 2 weeks and then put everything on hold.

/edit

New manager than before - Agency will setup per diem and work with the rate for relocation. Estimate about $20-24/hr per diem rate.

I would tend to agree with the title, at least for my area (not sure about the country as a whole). I've seen more ads and gotten more bites in the last few weeks than in the last couple *months* combined, I think. Including two e-mails just today. A lot of it is temp work, but that's better than nothing, especially if you can do temp-to-hire. Went to a 2nd interview for a programming position yesterday; now I'm just waiting for them to get back to me.

Yeah, overall it seems that things are alot more on the pickup side (my opinion). I know of several people that for years have been independent, but within the last 2 months or so have decided to go corperate for some reason or another. You never know with the economy though, the london attack may sway it for a little it may not.

Good morning everyone,

Let me lay down the situation...

I'm a Mechanical Design Engineer at Boeing in Everett, WA and been here a little over 4 years. I've read through this topic many times and unfortunately could never contribute... until now!

I'm neither a hiring manager nor going to bend over backwards for someone I don't personally know, but I am willing to read a resume and cover letter that were written for a particular job requisition and possibly critique it and drop it off with the hiring manager.

Let me be clear when I say "...for a particular job requisition...,"

What I have been told multiple times by managers looking for employees is that they want to see that the applicant read the job description and incorporated key characteristics of the description into the resume and cover letter. The Managers don't really want to see what you've done the last twelve years; they want to see how you can fill the open position. What can you bring to the job responsibilities listed that no one else can? Set yourself apart by reading the description and responding to the needs mentioned.

Everyone knows that Boeing is hiring like crazy and everyone should be aware that the commercial airplane business is cyclic; this means there are high ups and low downs, which we saw after 9/11. The current outlook seems stable until 2009 or better with multiple projects in the pipeline, but nothing is guaranteed.

I regularly receive emails asking if I know someone that would be interested or qualified for certain positions, but no one in particular comes to mind so I thought I would get a feel for how many engineer/scientists are currently looking for employment here on Anandtech and try to help a colleague out, since the same was done for me. Here is an example of a recent email that came across my inbox:

Fyi...Structures in general has a large call for Design/Analysis.
Here is a link and file for Structures Design/Analyst job requisitions. Pass this information on to nonBoeing field hires, too. If you want the Referral Bonus ($4000), make sure that you enter the person's contact information within the Boeing Jobs Referral link prior to the applicant actually submitting a resume to Boeing. Otherwise, the bonus won't happen (I think).

Howdy all
The "Structures" function is looking to hire more designers and stress analysts. If you know of any people who are interested in becoming a stress analyst (that is to say, contract employees that wish to become direct employees, current Boeing employees that work for other functions, or people outside the company), please let them know that several "requisitions" have opened. A list of the requisition numbers is below.

Any interested person can apply to these requisitions in the BESS system.

Edit: deleted non working link and added a shortcut to input field here.

Boeing Employment

I don't know if the links will work, but there are some starting points. Also I'm not out to get rich off this by any means, I'm just trying to help people out. Also the "referral bonus" has many stipulations on it as the job has to be in great need and the participant is not in the system already.

Here are some job requisition numbers in the current email dated 6-29-05 to search on:

05-1016788
05-1046787
05-1016775
05-1016772
05-1016771

05-1016756
05-1016753
05-1016750
05-1016748
05-1015955

For those interested I will try to help out with regards to my field (Job Classification 6AJA)
And I will try to keep this updated with the new information I get.

For those with other questions (related to this post you smart asses) just send me a PM.

We've got an opening in my comapny for a computer tech. Start date would be pretty much immediately. Below is the job description as given to me by my boss:

Computer Tech needed Hilton Head Island, SC. Competitive Pay. Must have at least 2 years experience in PC support. Mac knowledge a plus. Duties include hardware repair, software troubleshooting, networking. Must be motivated and driven. Serious Techs only.

Like I said, this is an immediate opportunity. Our current tech is moving within the next two weeks and we need someone to replace him ASAP. If you're interested in the opening, email your resume to me at john.hamilton@gmail.com. Please send me a PM here at AnandTech letting me know that you've sent your resume since I don't check my gmail account on a daily basis, but I do read ATOT daily. If you've got any questions regarding the position or the company, send me a PM.

Hope this helps someone looking for a job.

Edit to say that this position was filled today.

San Francisco, CA :: Information Technology :: Desktop Administrator

SMWM is an Architecture and Design firm in San Francisco, looking for a Desktop Administrator. Primary responsibility is 'Help Desk' for Windows XP (Dell) machines and office equipment (phones, copiers...). There is also a lot of work that needs to be done on Windows Server 2003. See the Craigslist ad at http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/tch/84720698.html.

This is my job, at the moment. I'm quitting to accept a management position at Stanford, so we're looking for someone to replace me. I can honestly tell you that it's a fun environment filled with friendly people. It's more relaxed than large corporate firms. And the Director of IT really will push you to learn everything you can possibly absorb (as well as supplying you with books and exam fees, as necessary). Because the IT department consists of two people, you will have the opportunity to learn everything, and you will be able to contribute as much as you're willing to make the effort for.

Don't send a resume without a cover letter. IM me with your email address if you send an application. Don't IM me with your resume. Also, I would mention something about being a "people person" in my cover letter if I was applying for my job again.

wow, I just got 6 calls last week alone...

too bad 4 of them were for a job i'm not too interested in (but they pay REALLY well)..*sigh* maybe i'm making a mistake by turning down the good paying jobs while looking for a job that may interest me (and will likely pay a lot less).

If anyone's looking to hire a recent graduate with an interest in systems & network administration in the NY/NJ area, let me know ... I wouldn't mind starting off at help desk, I'm just looking for a job that offers growth..

I'm still looking as well. I graduated last year with a B.S. in Business Information Systems. Ideal position would be a Business Analyst or Project Administrator. However, I am open to anything that will let me expand on my skills. I currently reside in Massachusetts.
