Similar deal posted before but this one shaves a few bucks off. For those that don't know, the Dell Truemobile is basically just a relabled Orinoco Gold card. Will work on non-dell machines.

I believe Dell Home doesn't charge tax to most states whereas Dell Small Business does...

thanks for the post. i've been thinking of getting this card.

does anyone have any thoughts about this card in comparison with the new D-Link Airplus cards (i.e., the 650+ here). the new D-Links don't give anything near the 22Mbps advertised bandwidth, but PC Magazine reports that they do offer more range and throughput than standard 802.11b. See article here.

I show three cards labeled as TrueMobile 1150, the one at $99 is obviously incorrect as it is a mini-pci but how can I tell the difference between the $69 model and the $79 model?

The Amazon card is only silver. The dell card is the gold card. Silver is only 64bit encryption. Gold is 128bit encryption. If your access point is setup with 128bit encryption and you try to connect with silver it won't work so check what encryption you are using before you buy the Amazon card.

not to make anyone feel bad about this card, but this is an Orinoco Silver which is only 64bit encryption while the Orinoco Gold is 128bit encryption. the dell is a rebadged orinoco gold. why go for the silver when it's more expensive and weaker?

farstar, as for your question on the difference between the $69 and $79 TrueMobile 1150, i really have no idea. one suggestion might be that the $79 is the retail version while the $69 is the oem. i bought the oem one about a week ago and it came in a white box, so i'm guessing that's an oem version.

1) From what I understand, Silvers can be upgraded to Gold with a firmware upgrade (info on Netstumbler.com).

2) Hardly ANYONE uses 128 bit encryption. If you use it with good equipment, it'll knock 75% or so off your throughput speeds.

Anyway, I know that the Dell card is a better deal, but the Amazon card is a nice backup plan
