I've only used DVD-ROMs for computers, and never purchased a stand-alone DVD player before, so forgive me for asking some newbie questions...

It's stated that the DVD player supports CD-R's - does that mean I can play VCDs on it, or does that not imply VCD-compatibility?
Does anyone know if the DVD player is hackable for multiple regions?

Your right, just because it says it plays CD-Rs, doesn't mean it will play VCDS. It has to say so implicitely. When it says CD-Rs, it probably means it will play music CDS that you have burned before. If you want a cheap-dvd player that plays VCDs and SVCDs, I recommend apex players.
