OS X 10.10 Yosemite

So the OS ten ten dot ten public beta is out this summer. Who here is signing up? I'm not keen on it because I've often run into serious issues with new OS X releases before the .1 or even .3 update.

You should do it on a non mission critical system. And file bugs when you run into them.

I signed up. Currently have mavericks running on the desktop in my Sig. I agree use a VM first. I'm Currently looking to get another MacBook sometime this summer.

Assuming it even works. New versions of Mac OS X tend to break the major virtual machine suites.

Eh. Ill wait. I have no issue running iOS beta's on my phone but not a beta on my only computer.

It's tempting but I'll wait until the final version. I don't use my MacBook as a primary computer anymore, but I don't feel like farting around with it if something breaks.

I just signed up after all (for a secondary machine). The tipping point was this:

Netflix will be using HTML 5 and Premium Video Extensions (including Media Source Extensions) in Yosemite. No more Silverlight bugs, better battery life, and I presume more HD content. Netflix in Windows 7 and Mavericks with Silverlight have limited HD content.

What are the advantages of Yosemite without iOS 8? I've got an app I'm working on and don't plan to upgrade my phone for a while.

Yea it looks exactly like ios 7. I actually have it installed on my pc on another hd. It's pretty simplistic. The doc is now faded and the apps all look like ios7. I was able to use the same kexts I run on mavericks on my ssd to get sound and internet working. My gpu is automatically recognized which is nice.

It's a bit buggy of course and sometimes when you reboot it, it opens previous Windows although you told it not to.

If you have an Apple developer account you should be able to get it.

In the past I always just used Perian for that sort of thing.

Perian is flaky IMO.

I just use VLC. Or else Flip4Mac in QuickTime.

There's also MPlayerX but I can't remember how good it is with AVI.

I had forgotten about Flip4Mac, isn't that just WMVs, and whatnot though? I just use VLC as well.
