OS X 10.5, easy upgrade to OS X 10.5 Server edition?

Have a friend who would like to create a VPN for when she travels and utilize .MAC Sync between her Powerbook and her new iMAC for her SOHO.

She currently wants the iMAC to be her home server system, and realized she only has the client version of OS X 10.5 (the client version will not allow for a VPN server setup). The server edition is next on her list of items to purchase.

Will it be an easy upgrade once the server edition software is purchased or should the entire system be wiped with a fresh install of the Server edition of OS X 10.5?

Are there any tips or tricks that anyone can share?

I thought you could download the server components for free from Apples website

It was just the Admin Tools is looks like, I saw some Hackintosh articles saying they upgraded from Leopard to Leopard Server with no hassles, so I would assume its the same for a real Mac.
