You have to give him some credit though. First and foremost he made the decision and regardless of how detached he was from the planning and execution of the operation he is irrevocably tied to its outcome. Look at Carter. He was weighed down by a bickering Congress, stagflation, and the Iran hostage crisis. The failure of the operation that he approved cannot really be laid at his feet. I do not think that you can affix blame for the helicopter crash on Carter but you have to admit that he pretty much torpedoed his reelection hopes with that failure. So Obama went ahead with this decision knowing that if it failed he would have to bear the brunt of the political fallout. In the end though, people can go on about the limits of his involvement in this case but you have to admit that for what he had to do in it he did it properly and that should be taken as an indication of him as being a good President in these situations.
